If SP knows that a modification is needed why don't they do it before they sell it to you?

I've never owned a SP reg but I've run into a lot of mad divers with free flowing regs especially in the winter who do.

What do you suppose SP is thinking? Maybe they're counting on most divers diving in warm water to save them the trouble of fixing the design.

I don't know either. As a customer it is quite annoying. I am really curious to see how it fares in the cold this winter. One of my buddies taught ice courses last year using the MK25/S600 and it never froze. (S600/G250HP has the same parts kit just different exterior I'm to understand). I hope I do not discover those with non-freezing SP regs have them detuned to the point of difficult breathing.

Another poster asked about other regs including Sherwood. My second primary is a Sherwood Maximus and I have never had a single problem with it under any conditions. I use to breath off it on the surface before descending in the winter and every other incorrect procedure before I knew better. Still it never froze. This is why I keep it as a second primary even though it does not breath as well actually. I know if my SP freezes the alternate design of the Maximus will make it unlikely to freeze.

I hope I don't reach this winter wishing I purchased something else....so far so good post adjustments so we'll see.

And even if he was, I'm sure many people won't lose a lot of sleep over it.

Now, he IS banned from Decostop, for being an annoying, grandstanding idiot. But Pete here on Scubaboard has explained the conditions for Genesis's return, and Genesis has chosen not to meet them.

Ha ha - well Boogie - we all seem to have friends and foes on these boards. What you say about Genesis could also be said about you....and me. This should probably be made into another thread.....add me to the list of those banned from TDS. Wreck Writer called me an a**hole, I replied with a similar flattering name for him (as I'm sure he expected and anticipated) and he promptly banned me from the site (as I expected and anticipated at that point). For him to ban me for responding in kind to his post was a farse but I honestly did not care enough to address it any further.

Anyway back to subject - was Genesis a SP tech or something? I will email my tech instructor who fixed my SP reg and ask him exactly what was done. The coldest temps I have been in since the adjustment was 42 degrees with no freezing.

Matt - I remember that thread, and with all due respect - you started it, and you deserved it. Read it again, if you can - you were being a (word removed). He just fed some back to you.

Anyway - Genesis wasn't a SP Tech, either. He just had some "opinions" on SP regs which he chose to broadcast quite forcefully.

There was definitely a heated debate on TDS. Whatever the circumstances, there is never an excuse to resort to name calling. (Mike Ferrera reminded me of this when I called you an idiot once). For it to be a moderator to introduce name calling in a thread, then ban the person replying in kind, says a lot about the moderator and the board itself. If someone shoots an arrow at me however they will get it back. You are one of the most reliable (word removed) I have found on this board and TDS so you must admit it is ironic you are making these statements.

The O-ring that was added to my reg was placed behind the piston (under it) to keep it slightly off the metal. This should keep freezing metal from coming into contact with the piston base.

I also mentioned that my 2nd stage was detuned just slightly.

To the original poster, I would give these adjustments a shot and see if it prevents the freezing.

We need to avoid name calling all together. I'm going to edit the couple of posts before this one to remove certain terms used and lets just leave it at that ok?

Sounds to me like you are describing an o-ring being placed on the top face of the piston in the LP chamber. I assume it would be the same size as th2 2 piston LP o-rings. That is a rather interesting fix. It would appear to limit the maximum flow volume by keeping the piston from opening as far as it normally does.

I expressed the same concern when it was described to me but the distance is extremely small, one mm or less. Just enough to keep it from touching the top of the cylinder if you will. I will try to find a schematic....

Without the benefit of advice from a really smart cookie like Genesis we are left to dissect the problem in bits and pieces. .

LOL .... i about swallowed my tongue when i read this. I liked some of Karls stuff but really ..... he was never wrong in his mind.

I've never found people who thought they were always right, to be right all that much.
