They are going to charge him for a fill if he doesn't dive it and brings it back full.

FYI, you can breathe the tank with a penny in it. I wouldn't do it to a tank that was O2 cleaned. -most of the time they don't even catch it until later in the middle of the dive.

I don't dispute you can still breathe it, but I'd still be a bit ticked off.

Just as a sidetrack, I wonder if a penny could cause any sort of chemical reaction inside the tank and cause someone to get sick if they didn't catch it right away? Maybe not so much the new ones, but possibly the older ones with copper? Seems like a good way to introduce unnecessary liability to me.

in an enriched oxygen tank, perhaps. but I think it's take a while to corrode that much.

but people often don't dive their tanks for months after a fill

Agreed, it's probably a stretch unless there were other factors involved, but still...

Well, we could ask Randy, the penny has been in his tanks for nearly 6 months now. Randy, if you care to show that you know me, any ill effects of that penny? Hehe.

And he dives every weekend.

Randy's just afraid that if he brings the tank out, that you'll keep the penny! :rofl3:

I had the same thing happen when I bought a new tank. I started noticing the rattling driving to North Carolina. Didn't realize what it was until after the dives. When I got back from the trip, the dive shop where I bought the tanks opened them and fixed it with no problem.

Speaking of tank pranks - a fellow diver was taking a AL30 to have it viz'd. Before he took it into the shop, he opened it and put a red thong in the tank. It was priceless seeing the tech's face when he pulled them out of the tank.

LOL, i am pretty broke... but my gear is sweet.

Kinda funny...

Offshore on an oil rig its supposed to be alcohol free. I don't drink, never have, but guess how people smuggled alcohol onto an oil rig? They'd pull their valves and fill their bailout bottle with whatever their booze of choice was, replace the valve and top off with air. It was years before Dive Supes started to catch on.
