augie:
Is the beach diving set in stone, or is there a chance we could get on a charter (or will that just add a layer of difficulty to making arrangements)?
If I can make it, I'd be glad to bring some ready to cook jerk chicken! Howard, would it be feasible/possible/allowable to bring my grill?
The shore dive seems obvious, since our building is .38 miles South of Hibiscus and LBTS. Our reef is a short swim - just like an LBTS dive, but since the private beaches start just south of Hibiscus, it's an opportunity for many to check out a "new" section of reef - for those that don't venture South of Hibiscus in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea.
The mgt office wasn't open on Friday... I'm not sure why, but since we're not in FL at the moment, it's hard to say. I should have confirmation on the availability of the BBQ area (there are 2 charcoal BBQ's and there was a large gas grill - which wasn't there the last time we looked). It's a large patio area just off of the beach, part of our building's "deck area"
My thoughts on the get together would be for people to start showing up mid-morning? People can dive as much as they want (we've done over 90 minues on a single tank, as the depths range from 8-15'). If you have a "dive-yack" or a "scooter" you might want to bring them, as you could possibly make it out to dive the "anglin' pier / hall of fame reef" which is just offshore, but it's a long (1/4 mile??) swim.
"our reef" has some fairly large coral heads, abundant fish especially juvenile species, we've seen guitarfish, stingrays, nurse sharks, flamingo tongue, sea hares, and more.
There is also a swimming pool, which is currently under repair, but scheduled to re-open on May 15. Also, since it's private beach, alcohol IS allowed on the beach.
Again... I will have confirmation ASAP, as the building (condo) association requires notice for any parties... Since it would be during the daytime, I can't imagine any problems, and also since there is a large percentage of snowbirds in our building, that should add to the ease of availability.
@ KBECK - I am not sure what the max is from the HOA - I will ask that too... I can't imagine 20-30 being a problem - it's a LARGE area... oh yeah... did I mention - FREE PARKING.
