There is...... in a pocket or between diver and BP. But since your question is in the HOG forum, you get more variety....:D

That's interesting and explains why my instructor puts his in his thigh pocket; he pretty DIR. However, I can't figure out exactly where and how you would put a SMB between back plate and wings without the reel digging a hole in your back. Could you enlighten me?

SMB without reel goes in the pouch on BP. Reel is clipped to D-ring. Connect before use.

SMB alone between BP and diver. Spool in pocket or butt ring....... when you need to deploy, you put the spool on the smb, and voila.... shoot the bag.:D

Good grief, lucky I read that before I tried that option. My vision of the butt ring method had a fluorescent green tail behind me. Not cool!

I actually consume the SMB with ketchup prior to the dive. If needed, I regurgitate it. The spool is clipped off to the condiment bar, which I strap to my back.

Actually, I keep SMB and LBs in pouches on the bottom of the backplate. The various spools are either clipped off on hip d-rings, or kept in pockets.

If you are doubled up you can also add a D-ring to the bottom of your tank either left or right. This is nice if you have more than one reel. I have some cave trained friends that do it this way.

DiveRite has a new kit that has the D-ring, D ring holder, and clamp that is pretty slick.

I also vote for the butt d-ring. It is out of the way, more streamlined than adding it to the hip d-ring, and easy to deploy. If you get into more advanced diving and start clipping of bottles, you won't want to have to fight the SMB while you are managing them.

forgive my ignorance but "x-shorts" are you referring to the shorts that you wear over your wet suit that'll give you a couple of pockets over your thighs? If so, I'd love to find them. Who sells them?
