I do recall noticing a color change as you describe, though it wasn't so different from the normal white text that it grabbed my attention quickly.

Hi Dr. Lecter,

For most yellow alerts, we are inverting the text (black letters on a yellow background). This makes the alerts stand-out noticeably. The more critical red alerts are inverted and they flash.

For the gas switch prompt, the thinking was that it wasn't really a serious condition, so we didn't invert the text. However, for consistency and based feedback that it isn't noticeable enough, in the next firmware release we will make the gas switch prompt color inverted yellow as well.

Edit: I checked the behavior and the gas switch prompt color is already black text on a yellow background. Sorry for any confusion.

Best regards,
Tyler Coen

i saw this in my manual and thought the same.

"WARNING This computer has bugs. Although we haven’t found them all yet, they are there. It is certain that there are things that this computer does that either we didn’t think about, or planned for it to do something different. Never risk your life on only one source of information. Use a second computer or tables. If you choose to make riskier dives, obtain the proper training and work up to them slowly to gain experience. This computer will fail. It is not whether it will fail but when it will fail. Do not depend on it. Always have a plan on how to handle failures. Automatic systems are no substitute for knowledge and training. No technology will keep you alive. Knowledge, skill, and practiced procedures are your best defense (Except for not doing the dive, of course)."
Kudos to the SR for the warning in the manual, it caught my wife's attention and her response, "...order me one of those".
I also remember being impressed the first time I read that text. Compare that to the messaging other scuba manufacturers try to feed us:

Tusa
(I think this one is Zoolander behind a dive mask and a regulator--NOBODY has more attitude than Zoolander and Tusa says "it's about attitude")

Tusa 2 and 3
(Would wives be more inclined to spontaneously ask us to "order me one of those" with these type of ads?)

The first thing I ask myself when considering a new piece of gear is if it will blind that cute young thing enough that she won't notice I'm a somewhat decrepit middle aged man.

I usually just find a nice sized sea cucumber to stuff down the front of my wetsuit, then I can dive whatever old gear I want.

I have the same results asking around. Basically I get some kinda answer like, well 30/70 and/or 20/70 should be "close enough". Say I spend the $75/ea on VPM-b will V-Planner and my Petrel match precisely? If they do, that's kinda worth the cool factor. :) I already have the V-Planner licenses, so why not just make the computers match the rest of the plan, I suppose...

I think what's really going on is the dives are getting planned on V-Planner with say VPM+3 and then you just tweak the Gradient Factors until you get a similar first deep stop and TTS. That would actually make sense and not cost anything extra. It should be very close if you do it that way.

The VPM-B profiles are very, very close to V-Plannner and run times are exactly the same. Example: All thing being equal V-Planner would give you 4min @12m, 6min @9m, 12min @6m (deco 22min). Shearwater would give you 3min @12m, 6min @9m, 13min @6m (deco 22min).

No need to tweak GF to look like your V-Planner profiles. $75 for the upgrade is a steal. The X1 upgrades vary from $145(multi deco)-$190(v-planner live)!!!!

I know the box includes the bungee-adapter straps. Does it also include bungee?

Nope. Let me know if you have trouble sourcing locally, I have 10' of both 3/16" and 1/8" arriving with some other things I needed this Saturday.

Hello, I'm looking to buy a Petrel. Can someone tell me if the Petrel includes the Bluetooth bundle or what exactly comes in the package?

The Petrel does come with a FOB for BlueTooth. Though if you have a mac, it is not needed as they have blue built in.
