Either way, I think that a MOD should be the one to send the notification to the quarry owner because it reinforces to the outside world, ScubaBoard's position that everybody gets the opportunity to know when they are being discussed.

I don't know how Netdoc would feel about that but my thinking is that the mods are here to keep the peace, not to mediate in and/or position themselves in a position of mediator in conflicts.

Nobody's shop or instructor has been mentioned. If Offthewall1 judges that it's in the best interest of his colleague to be informed of the discussion then I have full confidence that he'll do that.

And as conscientious as people are on scubaboard, I'm sure that if the name of the shop gets mentioned that someone will fire them off an email long before any of the mods see it.

This isn't an official mod standpoint as I haven't discussed it with anyone. It's only my personal opinion.

Good enough. The MODS can stay out, get in, it does not matter to me. I just know that they have often times been the ones that interjected and stated that they had sent an email tot the other party....I always thought it was a very stand up thing for SB to do. Again, just my opinion.

Thus OffTheWall1 should not mention the name of the shop in public, but mention it to a MOD who in turn can let the shop know that they are being discussed.

The dive shops in this area are limited, and only 1 locally that runs a quarry in the state, that I know of, and anyone familiar with the area probably already has a good idea of whom he might could possibly be referring to.

Of course I could be WAY off base here too.

Your opinion doesn't matter, :surrender: guy :D

I think I have seen this theme before. Thread is started involving a unnamed party. Unnamed party becomes the focus of the thread. Eventually some members figure out who the unnamed party is. And then the name is posted.

If you really think you know the unnamed party, why not contact them so they have the opportunity to participate (or to knowingly decline to participate if they so choose).

I am still new.. less than 20 dives..

I would have been freaked out if I was pushed off a platform when I was on my check out dives.

Were I the instructor, I would have written ***?!?! on my slate and flashed it at the offending instructor.

I may not be likely to go back to this quarry.

lol.. didn't realize the site would ** out the letters...

"what the...?" on the slate would work too :)

Oh, ok. I haven't been a mod for very long and I don't recall something like this happening before.

As I said, I don't want to give you guys the impression that this is the policy. I was clear in saying that it was just my opinion. I guess if there is an existing way of working I just wasn't aware of it.

it's not up top me, ohh and I remember somewhere that we aren't even sure if the instructor "belonged" to the owner he emailed.

independent instructors anyone?

anyway, doesn't matter really as the story will be slanted because as I have heard a number of times there are always three stories about something, his version, the other persons version and the truth.

Just a quick note, the OW student was not pushed off the platform, but as was said, "shoved".

NINJA Edit- Highlighted part would have been a GOOD way to handle the situation instead of packing up and heading home . . . not sure how long normal checkout dives last, 30-45 minutes maybe, didn't know you could debrief and get all your paperwork done and be packed in that time . . . but hey thats just me ;)

Not necessarily "THE WAY IT IS DONE"....just seen it happen a couple times. It might have been times where they were friends of people or maybe something else. I leave it to Pete and his group to handle it however they want. Again, when I saw the MODS do thast though, I thought it was stand-up because otherwise the people/companies may never know.
