this tech also stated the R295 is more fit for deeper diving than the R190 because it is "balanced" whereas the latter is not. On the other hand, from reading the board, both of these are unbalanced.

On a separate note, if these two have so many common parts, is it a matter of adjustment or is the R190 just naturally smoother breathing than the R295? That's my experience from testing on the pool a few days ago. the R190 breathed so much more natural while the R295 felt and sounded there was some turbulence occuring inside. I might have read in this board that it's the case that could make the difference?

Does anyone out there have the same experience that R190 breathes better than R295?

I don't have any experience with the R295, but it doesn't surprise me that the R190 would breathe a little better. It uses a bigger diaphragm, which means more surface area for the water to push on and greater mechanical advantage on the lever. (The way 2nd stages work is you inhale which lowers pressure inside the reg, the diaphragm collapses a little bit, pushes on a lever which opens the valve) There also might be a difference in the venturi assist; I think I read something about SP changing the VIVA on the R295.

In this case it shouldn't be much of a difference so it could be tuning. Were both stages tuned to the same first stage, and did you use them on the same first stage? OTOH, if its this tech that tuned them (the 140ft freeflow-R295-is-balanced-guy) then all bets are off on how they work.

I've had R190's past 300 feet with no free flows.

the freeflow guy/balanced guy is different from the guy who tuned my r190/r295. And yes, both were tuned *and* tested on the same first stage (mk25). The r295 definitely breathed rough compared to the r190.

Ok i think i'm convinced not to worry about r190 freeflowing at a magical depth of 140ft.

Thanks all!!!
