Spend another US$40.00 on e-bay for 2 adjusting screws and a wee bit of elbow grease, you can instantly "up-grade" the ATX40 to ATX50.

Its actually less than that because he can group them together for shipping. There is also a you tube video on how to do the upgrade.

Really good price to pay for new equipment albeit old model but my Apeks is even older(19yrs) and is still in good working order. Spare is easy to get in Europe and servicing present no challenging or special tool! Get it before UK gets boot out of EU!

From their website:

If you are on a budget and perhaps you have lots of other kit to buy, often the case for new divers then the ATX40 is the set to consider. This set is cold water rated, it’s a “does what is says on the tin” kinda set, not a great looker if I’m honest, but takes everything you will ever throw at it, even if that is your weight belt. I’ve used this set in my Dive School for years and they just “work”. I’ve also sold loads of these to people who have later upgraded to XTX50’s and XTX200’s who have confided that they really didn’t notice any difference in the breathe on their new regs compared with the trusty old ATX40. However be aware that whilst it has enough low pressure ports for all your needs it only comes with one HP port. So if you are going to go down the air integrated computer route then this set isn’t going to work for you. However if you need to get a set of regs with a console for less than £299 then this is a good starting point. In addition the ATX40 has a fairly good resale value, so if you want to upgrade in a year or two you’ll find you can still get around £150 back if they are still in good condition, a claim which can’t be made for a lot of other budget regs.

It really looks like a good offer and I will look it up further. Side by side the AL Titan LX Supreme vs the Apeks ATX40 which one would you go for if both were new? I still can get my deal a bit cheaper with the Titan and it does look a bit better. Look is only secondary, but it does have a 2nd HP port (not that I am looking at a gas integrated computer for the years to come, but, as stated, a good and well kept regulator can last many years...), larger metal part for the dissipation of heat in the 2nd stage, and that is all I could see from the pics... :)

Thanks for the great tip and advices.

It is up to you. If you think you will need the second HP port then go for the Titan. These guys did have a AL Core Supreme deal for 380 UK but it was out of stock so I did not mention it. Besides the two core seconds and supreme first, they also added an i300 and a bag. Something to base your price on.

I am not an expert on AL by any means, but in the U.S. the Titan LX name was retired several years ago. So these regs are at least 3 years and should be discounted. Will dive fine though.

Edit: I re-read your original post. If you are talking about a used set there are a couple of things you should be aware of. First, is it serviced? If not you may want to think about the cost of service or at least use it as a bargaining chip. Second, what kind of hoses does it have? People have been reported having trouble with braided hoses after a few years. If you need to replace the hoses then you are looking at additional money. Third, 4th element may not have the best price for you. There are stores in the Euro Zone that may be able to beat them on price. I just know them because they show up in US eBay most stores don't because they don't ship to the US.

The hoses are ruber and look fine, I am uncertain about the servicing of the equipment but will ask for.

I found a gauge for 70 euros in amazong: https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00GIKHKIQ/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3JWKAKR8XB7XF

I think this will be enough, since I will be wearing a wrist computer with Gauge.

But will also take a look at ebay, since that didn't cross my mind. This one I will be looking at on Monday, is a local site for used stuff, and I always pick things so that I can first see what I am buying. Don't really have much experience with ebay.

1. What is the octo on the used Titan set up?
2. The Apeks package comes with a console and if you do not want the depth gauge. You can simple remove it from the console or remove the spg from the console and use it without the boot(my preference). Sell the rest. Save the Eur70.00 to offset the package.
3. Both Titan and the Apeks package are old model and the ATX is probably a lot more.
4. Make sure the seller has the receipt for the service.
5. I am biased towards Apeks because I have been using them since 1998 for rec and tec dives. It has been such a joy of using them that "up-grading" never crossed my mind.

I am not sure what the gauge you linked to is made of. But brass and glass SPG are more durable than the plastic kind. However, plastic gauges are lighter for travel if that is a concern. In the US brass and glass gauges run $50-$100 US, depending on the make. However, they are all made in the same factory in Italy.

The reg set is available without the console for 258 U.K.

I am now uncertain of the octo in the set, but I think it was also legend, it was certainly cold water octo. Will also ask for the latest service. Am going tomorrow to check it out. The advertisement is no longer available, so cannot check anymore for this informations other than to mail or personally check it,
