How worth while is it for me to try to change how I fin?

I don't frog kick, but I know it is more efficient. But I don't know if I will ever has as much power frog kicking as I have flutter kicking now, so I don't know if it matters or helps. I don't need 'more efficient' unless I am moving enough to increase my rate of breathing.

Similarly, I tend to turn with my arms, especially for tight turns. I know turning with my fins is more efficient, but probably not enough to increase my dive time.

I want to do things the right way, but I am also a recreational diver not a commercial diver, dive instructor or Navy Seal. With over 100 dives, so it might be hard to change what I do, and it might not help.

If I do decide to improve how I fin, does this factor into my choice of fins?
You may be well served if you work on finning in a pool to get better with a mix of frog and flutter, I use both depending on conditions.

I’ve just returned for a trip to Thailand, I brought super nova’s and a pair of Tusa Hiflex with two sets of blades, the tri force and the flex pro. Both the triforce and the pro did great in heavy current but I friend had regular flex blades and was suffering in the current so I loaned him my triforce blades, he used them for the rest of the trip

I found the super nova maybe a little better over all giving more power with both kicks but the Tusa not far behind. I seem to have a fin fetish and while I’ve gotten rid of my two pair of go sport I haven yet tried the gorilla version. The S tek may be better for your flutter type kicking.

You should never use your arms and hands to fin with. I have no idea what a Navy Seal does but the mark of a good diver is good trim and 100% maneuvering using their fins. Practice makes perfect. A new pair of fins is not going to solve these problems. Yes, you should learn different kicking and finning styles and get your trim sorted. It is better for you and better for the underwater environment. I doubt there is anything wrong with the fins you have.

What conditions do you frog kick?

In theory, I agree I should never use my arms. My question was whether fixing this would improve my bottom time or give any other practical improvement.

I never said there was anything wrong with the fins I have or that a new pair would fix anything. I used these fins 100 dives before I even thought about changing them. In that time, I've spent 5 figure ranges on scuba and related trips and gear. If a low 3 figure expenditure can give me any benefit at all, it is worth trying. If Go Travel fins were above and beyond the best fin for everyone in all situations, no one would be using anything else.

I can do frog with any of the fins; Go Sport, Go Sport Gorilla and the SuperNova, no issues. SuperNova does Flutter much better than the Go Sport versions. I do a LOT of surface swimming and I use flutter when I have lots of surface swimming. The SuperNovas are the absolute best fins for flutter kicks I have every used but it also does well in frog for me.

You are most likely better surved with the SuperNovas or the Go Sport Gorilla.

Yes and Yes.

Good luck, have fun.

Using your arms is a waste of energy, air and just not useful and not efficient. Please do your best effort not to and use your legs/fins for moving underwater :)

Just keep diving...in decent and always different company and time will set you up.

Have you tried the S-Tek?
