Zung,

This has been (is) a great thread for us SP dorks.

Thanks,

Couv

P.s. 10 years-I would service it mainly to make sure the rubber is still in good shape and the parts are lubed. Kick me if after service the performance drops.

Thanks Bro.

I'll service these guys eventually; I'm just wondereding if I'd do it before or after the next dive trip at Christmas. Maybe the spring is a good time: water's too cold to dive, and the snow is too soft to ski. :D

My girlfriend's going to the Maldives for Christmas too. Be funny if you ran into each other.

I just redid one of my 109s and it's noticeably better than the one I did 80 dives ago, which has felt like it's getting worse for a bit. Might be doing something wrong I suppose.

She's going with her family. Her Dad declined to pay for me to join them :)

Just punched out a new seat for my primary 109 last night, breathes nicely again.

Very bad Karma. Oh well, it's a hell of a ride from CA anyway, the other side of the planet. You're better off on your couch. :D

You mean, your seat only lasted 80 dives? What is it made of?

The seat I replaced was the one that I got with it, used, but flipped over. When I took it out it wasn't very deeply grooved, so I was afraid I somehow mangled my orifice, but the new seat did the trick.

I was sort of in the mood to try the punch anyway :). Basically, every few dives I'd have to tighten the adjustment knob or it would slightly flow on the surface. Perhaps it could have been handled just by tightening the orifice a little?

It's possible you could have bought a little time by adusting the orifice "in" a bit.... But it sounds to me like it was simply time to change the seat from what you've described. It was not "holding" its adjustment any more, and detuning the reg to keep it from freeflowing should only be a temporary (dive site) fix.

Best wishes.

Yeah, something's not right. My wife used to dive a SP M5 (european G200), same Duro poppet, not adjustable. It has about 25 dives without any free flow; wouldn't have been nice because it's not really "field tunable" like the adjustable ones.

I'd suggest you invest in a one dollard manometer to get some metrics and monitor the thing every now and then.
