Scubagaskets getting into the Reg business

Well, the final samples have arrived in my shop, and I think we finally have a real competitor for Apeks' standard tech reg. It's been worth the wait over many revision cycles!

SGS3T4
- Balanced diaphragm
- Environmentally sealed
- Design a tiny bit like a DST
- Perhaps a tiny bit heavier?
- More cold water performance?
- Tiny bit more expensive to service?

It's 60g lighter than the DST (because 316SS).

More surface area for cold water resistance. I'm finishing up the service manual now and kits should be less expensive than Apeks.
I'll be tearing down the reg in the next week to check on the last set of changes.
As soon as we resolve the tariff nonsense, this should be many things Apeks is not:
a) HP seat that won't fail
b) 0.3mm thicker diaphragm that won't leak champagne bubbles at the 2-year mark in cold water
c) corrosion resistant stainless
d) DIY friendly
e) 5th port included at no extra cost (which is lower than DST/XTX50)
f) even SS hose ends!

I'm pleased!

Are those second stages hard purge buttons or soft covers?
If they are spring loaded hard purges are they available for the piston version?

Spring loaded hard buttons. Yes - I'd think you could mix n' match, or maybe even order seconds by themselves. I'll ask Scubagaskets.
They're excursion-limited to  prevent freeflow on the surface. So you can't do my ghetto tuning trick to bang on the button and induce a freeflow as a quick tuning check.

I am interested to know more about the design of this....is it designed more akin to the Aqualung/Mares "T" style poppet? Or is there a new poppet design entering the market?

That would be my concern. I work in stainless every day. It is rare that you get torqued stainless back apart.
