Otter started this in a previous thread...

So who will be at Scuba Show 2003 in Long Beach next weekend? Looks like I will be there on Sunday am...

Jaye and I will be there, as always.

Will I get to meet you this time, or will you avoid me again, like at Chamber Eve :D

Kinda bummed - SC's flyer this year blows. Remember the 20% (or was it 25%) off coupon of years past? That's how we got our PST's. Now that they're a DUI dealer, there are a lot of folks that would be probably be pushed over the edge into a Drysuit with a compelling coupon. Oh well...

Andrea (one of my dive buddies) and I will be there, possibly both days although it will mean giving up a weekend of diving.

Dr. Bill

Landlocked this week in the Cincy area.

Always liked going to the show so I could get all those "freebies" and phone calls telling me I won something

Anyway, hope you have a good time, looking forward to getting wet off Catalina next month when I am there.

I'm going, but not sure when, yet. Wanted to be in the water on Saturday or Sunday, but it seems that everyone is either going to be at the show or is just not available ;-0

kelpmermaid,

Just curious as to the purpose of your query. Is it just curiosity, or is there a plan to meet? If so, I'd agree that it'd be nice to put names, voices, and faces to these "handles".

Being relatively new to this board, I'm just wondering how do ScubaBoard members recognize each other (do we wear red carnations or something)? Do many know each other from diving together?

In any case, I'll be there Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday.

Actually, this is something that we're not necessarily very good at considering the mini-fiasco at the Chamber evening where we all missed each other.

A few of us do know each other from diving in Catalina.

I wasn't sure if I wanted to "come out" in public (for want of a better expression,) but I will be there on Sunday - I'll be at the Catalina Conservancy Divers booth in the AM, so stop by. That goes for any of the rest of you, too.

As for who knows whom, I have met a few people on the board, but not many. I met Dr. Bill at Casino Point, and I briefly met Arnaud at the Avalon Harbor U/W Cleanup. Mo2 and I probably shop at the same supermarkets, but I have not met him. A few of us missed each other at Chamber Evening. People just look so different dry and in street clothes!

I just had this weird vision of Ken (Mo2) walking at Ralph's in full DIR gear with his fins on, logging his coupons on his WetNotes...

:D

Kelpmermaid,
Are you part of the Conservancy Divers? I was interested in going through the training when they last offered it (I think it was last month) but I had a conflict with the dates, so wasn't able to. I'm definitely still looking into it, though - hopefully when it's offered again in October I'll be able to go. Maybe this isn't the right place to start this discussion, but if you've got any feedback/info on doing their research dives, I'd love to talk to someone who actually participates in them!

As for Mo2vations comments on the SC coupons, I agree that they aren't as nice as a flat % off, but I'd been considering doing a Rescue class for some time, and the coupon coupeled with the special on classes they have going now made it very nice for me to sign up. With a $200 purchase (the class fees and other odds and ends I "needed" as well), I received a $50 gift certificate, which I then used for the book and more odds and ends (I stocked up my save-a-dive kit with light bulbs, fin straps, etc...), so it was like getting 25% back. I agree, it wouldn't be as good a discount on a dry suit, but it worked for what I needed....

As for the topic of this thread, I won't be going to the SCUBA show (working Saturday and would rather be diving at Casino Point than talking about it on Sunday)
