Stephen Ash:
Actually... that's a perfectly reasonable alternative explanation and the OP hasn't denied that yet.

Do you really think it is reasonable that someone would go through this to wrongly have the cost of a regulator service returned?

cjust:
Seriously? I can't tell if that is sarcasm or not. I didn't realize that was something I would have to deny. But for the record, no I did not loosen the hose with a wrench.

I WAS serious and I WASN'T picking on you. Many people change their seconds around... for any number of reasons. You could have done that and forgot to tighten it back up.

I was just asking since that would be the ONLY other way the thing could have come loose other than the tech forgetting to tighten it. I mean it won't just loosen up by itself during travel or whatever.

If you say you didn't then I believe you. But we needed to hear you say it. Since you didn't that leaves only one explanation...

No... of course not.

But people do tinker with their regs from time to time.

Stephen Ash:
OK... I'm I the only one that doesn't get this... sorry.

No. I recognize it as a reference to the game Clue but I don't get the joke.

No it's not reasonable. If the OP had screwed it up himself, there is no reason in the world for him to refuse the shop's original offer to service it again for free. What would he have gained with a cash refund?

Unless you want to go for the conspiracy option, in which the evil OP tries to take down the LDS for reasons known only to himself. So all he needs to do is sabotage the reg, get one of his buddies to film him when it failed, and know in advance that the shop would refuse to offer a cash refund on the service so he could come to Scubaboard and complain about it.

lowwall:
Any claims that this wasn't your fault fail the straight face test. The only way this couldn't be entirely your fault is if the OP took a wrench and loosened the connection himself. Which is absurd.

It is absolutely not absurd to think that someone would remove a second stage for a variety of reasons such as swaping out a hose. The OP says he didn't and we should give him the benefit of the doubt but it certainly is not outside the realm of possiblities and way far from "absurd".

The important thing is that we will all think about including this in our pre-dive checks.

Don't get me wrong, I am not by any stretch accusing the OP of lying or trying to cover anything up or trying to bring down the LDS, but I have stoped long ago trying to understand why people do the things they do. It is less than fair to draw conclusions based on generalized assumptions and "interpretation of people's motivations. I think the common term is "armchair quarterbacking".

I'm just trying to be a bit more objective in my analysis.
