Hi all,

New to diving - completed my OW a few weeks ago, going into completing my AOW this weekend (as I felt the extra few dives with a trained instructor would help build my confidence massively). I am going to dive on holiday a couple of times this year, but will hopefully dive in the UK also throughout the year.

Can anybody recommend companies they use for recreational dive insurance? That will cover me worldwide and diving here at home.

Thanks in advance :D

Dan Europe Sport Silver is pretty much the standard for UK and EMEA regions If memory serves is around 90 Euros per year. If you have a diving partner then you can get family insurance which is cheaper than individual

+1 DAN Europe made sense for me on cost, coverage and reputation. Also worth noting that some good travel insurances may cover you for Scuba Diving but with limitations (i.e 18m max, no shark diving..)

Excellent point well made.

I still remember a guy in our group dive the Zenobia who needed a chamber ride after the first dive. Unfortunately he hadn't read the small print and was landed with a £20,000 bill because his dive profile was to 21m but his insurance coverage was only to 18m despite him being qualified.

Whereas I've seen the response from Dan where someone was taken ill on a liveaboard, while they (DAN) didn't think it was a DCS they still evacuated him at their expense and without fuss

Definitely recommend DAN. I wouldn't dive without it (well, okay... so I did in my early years). Never had to use it but given the cost of hyperbaric treatments and possible evacuation from remote sites, it is a bargain.

A dive buddy of mine had DAN insurance, got bent, and spent 11 days in a chamber. DAN covered the whole thing and treated him like a king.

It's absolutely a good investment. Could well save your life.

Most will recommend DAN. I don't have it because my private (Canada) Blue Cross covers me for the diving that I do out of Canada. And of course I'm covered in Canada because of our great socialist healthcare system. If you have a private plan like that it may be worth looking into. Of course, I haven't been to out of the way areas where a helicopter to a chamber would be needed.

Thanks for all your replies!

Working out at £80 GBP for a year with DAN - Silver Sport Diver insurance! It's cheap!

Another vote for Dan.
