I appreciate all your posts (or most of them anyway). To answer some of your questions - I just found out about his scuba diving a few weeks ago. It was never mentioned before. I figured its a pretty unique hobby so I started looking for forums where I could get his info out. No Scars, Marks, or Tattoos that we are aware of. He is certified for open water, advanced open water, ice, medic first aid and rescue. He spoke of diving wrecks in Michigan, he's dove in MN WI MI that we know of and before his conviction frequented Cozumel at least once a year. We believe he may still be in Minnesota in the Twin Cities area. Batt told his ex he would disappear and we'd never find him. He's a smart guy and has been completely off radar for almost 10 years now....but will eventually screw up and/or run out of resources. We have a new warrants program here that was started around 3 years ago. Now focusing on cold case warrants in addition to the current ones. He is 2nd on our MOST WANTED list. When he's caught, he goes to prison.

This cold case is a priority for me because of the degree of abuse and the fact much of it was done in front of his daughter who was 5-8 at the time!

Even though I'm one of the smart asses (sorry, can't help myself) I admire your tenacity. Once you find him, maybe you can submit your story to Cold Case Files. That would be pretty cool, especially if the lead came from SB.

Scott, Do you know what kind of work he does? Wreck diving is not a cheap part of scuba. It takes some serious cash to dive the Great Lakes wrecks. If he is a professional type- engineer, accountant, etc it may help to contact some firms in the areas you are looking in to see if they have an employee that has an interest in diving. We love to talk about diving. He may be able to change his ID but I'm betting he'll have a hard time keeping his mouth shut to co workers about his dive expertise. Also get ahold of the charters that run the lakes. Not much shore diving. Unless he has friends with a boat he'll need a ride to the sites. Most of them know their passengers pretty well and will remember a face even if he has a new name.

Just seems kind of odd, he was convicted and sentenced in the late 90's, suspended sentence for 5 years and the detective hasnt seem him since. That would put the man at large for at least 9 years. Why is the detective just now posting, unless he just found out about this board, that is a thought.

Where did you see he was convicted in the late 90's? That is when the assaults occurred. It could be years later before it gets to trial.

We should take turns periodically posting to this thread to keep it high on the "new posts" list.

Hey, Mods!

Maybe you could make this a sticky in this "Non-diving" forum?

Post #1 :rtfm:

Batt was tried and convicted of Felony 3rd Degree Assault causing Substantial Bodily Harm to his victim. While the Sheriff's Office argued he should have been sentenced to prison, he was given a 5 year stayed prison sentence as long as he complied with probation and treatment. That was the last time he was seen here.

SWAG - they were arrest pics from 10 years ago.

He should be ~47 now.
