Safety Sausage question

My Lift Bag and my Eprib are tucked in an OMS pocket under my tank, the spool is clipped off and is tight when it is wound so that it does not unravel. and the SMB is in its own pocket on the belt.

I have this nifty little mesh pocket (Dive Rite) that's bolted to my back plate. If I'm quarry diving, it has a lift bag, if I'm in the ocean, it has a safety sausage. I clip my reel to a D-ring

My SMB is tied up to a spool and clipped to the loop in my left thigh pocket with a double ender.

I don't want to start a debate over this. Is there actual empirical evidence that supports this?

It is an interesting concept, but I can't think of a few ways this may not work and for another few dollars, there are products out there that are proven to work.

I'm always willing to look at something if it can save a buck or two!

man, just talking about spreading something white----> NOT dark like a wetsuit might be---over the water(ocean) where a chopper or fixed wing might spot you a little easier...What's the problem with that??...

For starters it may look too much like a white cap. It would take two hands or two people to hold open. How would it stay flat on the surface?

I like the concept, don't get me wrong. I just don't think it would work as well as you hope and want.

I've read of dry land rescue scenarios with this product, but I haven't read of one in the water yet.

Just look at how they have designed and made this product. Frankly I think they may have started with the 30# trash bag.

Here's what I use:

XS Scuba Mesh Carry Pouch

You can clip it to the bottom or your plate or along one side with the opening facing down. It takes a small amount of practice to make sure you can get the sausage and reel out, but after a couple of practice sessions, you will get the hang of it.

I use X-shorts, so I have pockets on either my drysuit or wetsuit. My SMB and spool, pre-rigged, are clipped off in my pocket.
