Howdy. I'm brand new here (just discovered the site while at work, don't tell anyone) and thought I'd jump in on this thread. Located in Annapolis, MD and haven't been in the water since I moved up here a year ago. What's good?

Depends on what you are looking for. There are some interesting wrecks off of Ocean City, but the visibility averages about 20 feet. Did you ever dive in the New River? I haven't but want to the next time I go back to Tech for a football game.

Yeah, I did once or twice. The site I went to is right under the Peppers Ferry bridge out in Christiansburg. It's been awhile, but IIRC: Relatively cold most of the year, max depth around 45ft, vis can range from 0 to maybe 20. Interesting set of currents. Really not too bad, but it's diving!

I think if you can find the VT scuba club web page they used to have info about the Peppers Ferry site. Glad to meet another Hokie; good luck.

I'm definitely going to Storm this weekend. Planning on a nite dive thursday and then diving all day friday and saturday morning. Anyone is welcome to join me. Staying at the mountaineer both nights. And yeah I know the weather is supposed to go to crap this weekend but I don't care. the water will be warmer than the air anyway.

Greetings all,

It's good to see there are more than a few divers in my neighborhood - which happens to be the Charles Town / Harpers Ferry area. My wife is my usual dive buddy, but since I work as an independent film maker it means I occasionally have free days during the week that she doesn't have. I'll be happy to get wet with anyone who wants to play hookey - when the local puddles warm up a bit. I haven't been to any of the quarries around here, but I plan to get to know all of them this year.

I have been diving in St. Lucia, Aruba and Key Largo. We have joined the Ocean Rovers Scuba Club out of our LDS, The Brass Anchor in Frederick, MD, and are going on club trips to Rawlings May 5&6, Pompano Beach May 17-21, and Bonaire in September. That's pretty much going to blow the major trip budget for the year, so everything else is going to be local.

RSL - yes there is camping near Storm. There is a large state campground near Davis at Blackwater Falls state park. It's a few miles away, but not bad.

I am a life-long motorcycle junkie, and have been riding that area for 20 years. We have camped at Blackwater, although I'm not sure of its operating status at this time of the year.

Glad to see another WVinian on the board. Welcome aboard and hope to see you in the water soon.

Is there any camping anywhere near Lake Storm?
There's plenty of land nearby. Whether it's open to camping is anybody's guess. The mountaineer starts at around 20 bucks a night. Worth it for a shower and indoor toilet. Jim

Hi All,

Been off the board for a while but now I'm back. How's everyone?
