Personally, I'll buy from wherever is cheapest and get training from whoever is best.

For me, that's a different unit, straight from the manufacturer and training direct from the manufacturer. An option not open to most people I understand.

Basically, Yes.

There is no way a rebreather manufacturer could give cave country to one person (Jim Wyatt) who owns N. Florida without pissing off, alienating, and basically screwing himself. Could you imagine if a manufacturer forced you to take cave rebreather training from 1 guy and only 1 guy?

Can you imagine if a manufacturer said "you can take rebreather classes with anyone in your area, apart from three guys. But if it isn't AddHelium, we'll ban them from teaching courses in your area"

....snip....
I have to admit that I was first shocked when I saw Dsix36, a non-instructor, at the Hammerhead try dive. That he was having certain issues with the unit and how it was being marketed gave me pause.
..../snip.....

Any and all issues that I have now and in the past (with any rebreather) are fully documented in my posts both here and on other forums. I have never been shy about sharing my opinions publicly.

My being at the Hammerhead demo days was multi faceted for me. I got to dive a small cave that I had never been in before, I got to support SubGravity a bit, I saved on the price of admission, I got to try a different rebreather, I got a close and personal introduction to some new electronics, and I got to meet new and old friends. The fact that I was so impressed with the Hammerhead rebreather was the only shocking part (not one with jm stuff, only the new electroniced ones).

My only issue in regards to marketing of the rEvo was, and still is, that a fair and level playing field needs to be in place for all parties concerned. Think about it like a new car dealership. If Joe Driver buys a Ford, does that mean he should have a direct path to a future Ford dealership? What if there is already a Ford dealership across the street from him? What if Joe Driver does get a dealership and then moves to a new area to begin a new dealership, should be granted free reign in his new area or still have to abide by similar terms of the initial dealership agreement? It is the same exact principal except with a much smaller customer base per capita. Regardless of my opinions, your opinions, Jim's opinions, any of the Peter's opinion, etc. etc. etc., It is only Paul R's opinion that really matters at the end of the day.

can some1 explain why this is so? i get CCR maker deciding who can buy a CCR, but certs are things training agencies made up & dont need any equipment maker input...right? cert only means 'so & so agency/instructor verified diver did such & such'

having ccr maker input on training/certs could be good knowledge addition if ccr maker isnt obstruction 2 training, but why do agencies need ccr maker blessing??

Why is everyone comparing this egregious practice to car dealerships? There could not be a more corrupt, avaricious and anti-capitalist business model in the US. Talk about a dumb comparison. Anyone doubt me? Try open a new dealership anywhere in the USA. Hey, wait a minute...

Because the CCR maker is the guy with the deepest pockets and the most exposure to liability. If you look at the current and past CCR lawsuits, the manufacturer is ALWAYS sued, regardless of cause of death.

Look at how Elon and tesla are getting sodomized by the auto dealer associations.

An excellent point and (sadly) an important one in any conversation.

I always wonder if CCR is covered in most diving insurances.

I pay a rider to allow them on the Spree.
