Older Yoke style regulators were usually designed to work with 2,250-2500 psi tank pressures, and correspondingly, the tank valves were a bit smaller. I don't think I'd be trying to put that reg on a "modern pressure" tank.

If the steel tank had a PRO Valve, DIN/Yoke convertible, they are a little deeper and wider than Yoke valves and some of the older yokes are not deep/wide enough to slip over the valve.
i have seen rental AL tanks with Convertible valves. So it may not be just the steel tank.

I've used this reg set in convertible DIN/Yoke tank valves rated 3000 psi. They don't need to be bulkier than a simple Yoke valve.

Just out of curiosity I went and measured my valves. I only have one yoke valve so the sample is not big there

Thermo yoke .943"D X 1.041W
OMS PRO 1.093"D X 1.099"W
OMS (manifold) PRO 1.089"D X 1.25"W
Thermo (manifold) PRO 0.996"D X 1.113"W
Thermo K 1.003"D X 1.110"W
Blue Steel PRO 1.08"D X 1.115"W

The PRO valves were all larger although the is quit range in the sizes.
