Recreational Pony Bottles, completely unnecessary? Why or why not?

Would a tank-mounted 3 litre cylinder be more effective? If a long SPG is used, you can monitor the gas levels, same with mounting the short regulator hose with a bungee under your chin (the PONY is for you only
After reading through everyone’s comments I may just mount to main tank as all my dinero is going to my ITC and getting a wing or going to side mount is not feasible for awhile!

The two issues to address (there are others):
  • Ensure the PONY (and your primary tank) is turned on before you jump.
  • Make sure you are breathing from the primary when you jump (the PONY regulator must be easily identifiable from the primary)
