I don't like integrated hood because when it gets warmer, what am I going to do with the hood? Let it flop behind while I'm going bareheaded?

As far as wetsuit goes, my current one is from Horizon Wetsuit (aka New Wave Wetsuit, aka the Theresa Lady).

+1 on seperates, more flexibilty when water temps change, you can mix up the parts to suit your comfort level.

++1...Theresa is awesome.

Bearskin is a house brand for Pac Wilderness. It is not the same as Bare which is a Canadian company that makes wetsuits and drysuits. It is possible that Bearskin is sewn in Canada, but that seems unlikely for a bargain price suit and probably irrelevant.

Bare brand not the same as PW's Bearskin. Pacific Wilderness suits are manufactured in Canada by Atlan. The Bearskins are a great economical suit for SoCal if you are a stock size.

Eagle Reef will build a custom anyway you want for a resonable price.

There is also B&B in Long Beach. They are a bit pricy, but a lot of commercial divers go there.

Wetsuits?!? Humm, I don't know anybody who dives a wetsuit.

For a bit more than a new custom wetsuit you could probably move into used drysuit.

Just food for thought though.

Agreed. If your up to spending more then a couple hundred, you'd be better off saving up a bit more and going dry. I can comfortably dive the whole year in a wetsuit, but doing multiple dives in the winter up at the Northern Channel Islands can get you chilled to the bone. I've found some lightly used dry-suits in the 6-7 hundred dollar range and even some less then that.

I guess your referring to my post and no I am not confusing Bearskin with BARE. As Mselenaous has stated Pac Wild's Bearskin line up is in fact manufactured in Canada by Atlan. Their base suit is extremely economical for its quality and when compared to other bargain suits I've ran across, Bearskin's lineup shines through. The bottom of the barrel front-zip which I use is a bit stiffer then other more expensive suits I've worn but the quality of the stitching and overall cut is as good as it gets. Jeff "the owner of Pac Wild" has chosen to only carry top shelf merchandise and this can be seen in all of the equipment carried in store, including his suits. The Bearskin lineup ranges from the base front zip I use all the way up to an ultra stretchy top end semi-dry. They are sold at bargain prices but IMHO offer more bang for your buck then mainstream brands. I'd love to have a 7mm Merino lined Pinnacle wetsuit but not when it costs upwards of 4 to 5 Benjamins. ;)

Just wasn’t sure if the two names were getting confused. Lots of people don’t make the distinction.

I’ve never had a Bearskin so I can’t comment on their quality. I had an Xcel which lasted for years.

Pacific Wilderness currently shows the Bearskin Semi-Dry as listing for $550 and being sold for $300. JMJ’s comparable custom hooded suit with a front zipper across the chest is shown at $370. They sell stock size suits without attached hoods for $259. Custom suits aren’t for everyone, but the pricing differential seems reasonable to me if you want or need custom fitting.

I've heard great things about JMJ's build quality and only 70$ more for a custom cut suit seems to be a fair deal. Funny enough my main dive buddy says he was actually warmer in the base 100 dollar front zip then the 300+ dollar Pac Wild Semi-dry. Then again he never could be comfortable diving wet and hence now dives with a Diving Concepts dry suit.

JNJ wetsuits in Torrance...

It's actually JMJ Wetsuits in Torrance (not Johnson and Johnson). And yes, I love their products. Very happy customer. Bought a 7mm wetsuit, a 3mm wetsuit, a 5mm hooded vest and three boat coats from them. They're great!
