It's not really rec diving in the world outside of GUE.

Maybe it should be, she says wryly . . .

After 8 pages, what do we know?

1) It's not necessary to have trimix to do dives in the 100 foot range.

2) It may be nice to have trimix to do dives in the 100 foot range given certain parameters, some individual, some dive-dependent.

3) Trimix is expensive.

4) People with standard OW skills probably shouldn't try to dive trimix (duh!)

5) Helium may or may not incur greater deco obligations than nitrogen. The jury is still out and work is being done. It is probably safer to behave as though it does for the time being, but the deco obligations in the recreational ranges are not great.

6) If we called the class "Shallow quasi-technical trimix", the RedHead would like it better :)

JeffG:
Your the one taking a recreational dive and making it technical.

You know that it all boils down to agency differences, so why have this argument?

Lynne, I agree except for No. 6. Just Trimix will do for me. :)

TheRedHead:
Think about the common denominator of the typical recreational diver. I don't see how this is a difficult concept to grasp. Don't you think there should be a line between the two considering our current standards of recreational diving?

Lowest common denominator? Come on now...if they can't do the skills, they can't get the card and should stick to diving below 30' or so where they can liftbag themselves and their 50 lb weight belt to the surface because they obviously lack basic diving skills.

Soggy:
You lost me. Why would I carry EAN50 on a dive within the NDLs?

accelerated deco (sorry, safety-stop). More wiggle-room in case you overstayed the plan.

Soggy:
What agency would call a 30 minute dive at 100 ft on 32% a technical dive?

Wasn't talking about EAN32, was talking about Trimix.

TheRedHead:
Wasn't talking about EAN32, was talking about Trimix.
woooooooooosh
