But my point still remains that on many 80-100 ft. dives there is no point in using Trimix. That was the point of this thread.

I agree. Although I would always like a bit of mix for those depths it's just not always feasable. On the other hand, if I'm planning on an 45-60 minutes or more at 100', I'll add helium to the mix since it makes the dive more enjoyable.

I was just reiterating my instructor's argument of why incur deco when you don't have to? If you are diving off recreational charters on dives in that range, trimix is probably not going to be available anyway. Has nothing to do with pride. Just intellectual argument.

I've done wall dives in the san juans off a boat using 30/30. Its nice being at 100 fsw and feeling as clear as you do at 20, but its overkill. You can get basically the same effect off of being on EAN32 and just staying above 80 fsw and there's nothing at 100 to see that you can't see at 80.

Thanks for posting this Floater. I think that I'm annoying Marlinspike be being so flippant, but what you quoted is a good example of what I meant be experimenting with deco. This can be interpolated and extrapolated to any experience level. Freshly minted OW divers can dive progressively challenging dives to find their comfort level, just as cave divers can push to find where they draw the line. I just finished trimix class, but now, I am "experimenting" to see which tables I like and which ones I don't like. I'm not diving any deeper than than before :D but maybe I don't need that extra 5 minutes with a more conservative gradient.

Actually it was the lack of logic and incoherence.

I did a penetration dive of the Cape Breton. ~110-115 ft Very nice to be on mix and keep a clear head.

Soggy, sure it is a deco dive with doubles, and not very recreational in the common usage of the term. I'm interested in the concept and that's why I ask questions.

Doubles? Deco dive?

Put that gas in a single (I would probably need a 130) and go do the dive.

TSandM:
And lamont's class was REC Triox. It was an intermediate in the GUE progression. It is NOT Tech 1 or Cave 1. It does NOT involve decompression or overheads. It just applies technical standards for skills to recreational divers, just as Fundies begins to do.

Lynne, I would equate that class with a technical class. It's not really rec diving in the world outside of GUE.

Last time I checked, the NDL at 100 ft on 32% was 30 minutes. Do you do safety stops?

Diving to 100ft or more in a single is a technical class?
