Thanks Gdog, but I prefer to slow down at the hotel. Until there, it's a mission for me. ;)

I switch over into vacation mode as soon as my bags are checked for the flight down; once I've got us to the airport on time, it's someone else's problem. The fuss some folks make about the airport shuttle is a mystery to me (and I do not dive from cattle boats, thank you), but to each his own. Oh, yeah, and the hotel I stay in does not have a check in line; it's only got 22 rooms and I wouldn't stay anywhere else. DSFDF and YMMV.

And no, I don't think you'll get a porter to schlep all your equipaje out to the street for you, either. ;^)

I guess it just never occurred to me that I wasn't on vacation if I was carrying a couple of bags. And when I've waited 11 months for my vacation I don't see the crisis in waiting another 20 minutes.

Yo tam bien. I'm gonna be there two weeks, too, so what's the rush? Island time, man; that's why I'm there.

My body's already shifting into island time:11:, and I'm still...let's see...21 days out! (but who's counting;) )

For the past week it seems like it takes me forever to do anything!

I used to get VERY stressed out traveling, but have gotten much better about taking it as it comes, not much you can do about it anyway.

Cozumel is one of the easiest tropical destinations to get around. We stay at the Fiesta Americana, to the south of San Miguel. We usually always get a "package" deal on airfare and hotel but, NEVER buy the transfers part (usually $35 to $50 per person). When arriving in Coz, you can't (local rules) take a taxi from the airport - you must take a "shuttle" [with other travelers] and get dropped-off at your hotel. This costs $9.50 per person (purchased at airport upon arrival). When departing for the airport we always take a taxi. They are plentiful and you leave the hotel on your schedule. The cost for the taxi for both of us is $10. The drivers are always quick to get you there as well.

Yep, buying the hotel transfers is a rip-off. Much cheaper to buy the van transfers at the airport. I just hate waiting on a van to fill up, the rest as I said above....

If you are a member of Intercontinentals' Priority Club they will for a fee pick you up at the airport in a Suburban and take you to the Presidente Hotel.

Well, I'm an Ambassador-level member of the Priority Club and contacted the Presidente about this before a trip last year. They said this was NOT available. After I arrived at the hotel, I asked a couple of people (front desk, concierge, etc.) and they all said the same thing.

I also asked if I could arrange for them to take us TO the airport as we were leaving and told that was not possible, either.

That parts means they just don't want to, as they could...

Of course - there's no regulation that would prohibit it.

I mentioned it mostly to point out that the resort appears to have no interest whatsoever in competing with taxis. If they won't even take me to the airport, there's no way on earth they're going to pick people up there and run afoul of the taxi union.

Mawg - have you yourself actually been picked up at the airport by the Presidente car? If so, how long ago was it?
