All have technical and/or cave training. A few more if I can just remember their screen names here.

If anyone notices a member here that they feel doesn't belong, PM me so that I can review them. Be sure to include a reason or concern to help provide insight.

Remember that I copied several threads back here from the main board so ya'll would have something other than blank walls to look at. Those initial threads aren't necessarily a reflection of the user base.

Way back when, the I2I forum used to have a list of members as a sticky, with agency and instructor number.

I understand it got too difficult to maintain, but is still locked away in a back room somewhere for reference.

Why not start something like that here? Happy to volunteer details to kick it off.

On another note, I hope that people here still take the time to post in the open forums.

I'm guilty, to a certain extent, of hanging out in the I2I forum because it's relevant to me and rarely dip into the open forums..... some conversations are best had in the open. I'm thinking of Trace's post about "it's you or or both of you", which certainly stimulated a discussion and lots of different viewpoints. Whilst it was a cave discussion, it probably did benefit some non-tech people.... I say this after having a peripheral involvement in a bends case this last weekend, something that really should be discussed openly so people do realise that it happens and that in some cases it is preventable.

It's funny you should post this Andy. I was just thinking the opposite. It seems to me that many in the tech crowd doesn't start a lot of threads, they just jump in once they get rolling a bit.

Without a few people in here posting questions about Deep Air or Split Fins, I'm afraid things may be a little dull, but I'm hoping that I'm wrong. :) That's the biggest potential drawback I see to this forum.

The biggest plus is that since this is just a small part of greater forum, we can control the general populace from posting. The current tech forums out there have no way of stopping a noob from registering and posting. We do. If things get too boring tho, I can already think of a few users I can let in. ;)

Do the rest of you want to do something like this by including cert #'s, or do you just want to see how the peer review system works first?

Indeed, and I do like I2I for that reason.... there are a few people who make me hold my head in my hands and groan, but generally there is a bit of a bond because of what we do.

That also has applies here - it will be quite cool to have some decent techy discussions that don't get swamped with cr@p. But I also think it's good that other people out there do get a tech influence and access to the expertise and knowledge that we as a group hold.

Oh, by the way, I don't mind deep(ish) air.... but split fins, NEVER!!!! ;)

Subtlety is not something this group is really known for. :)

We'll start out with this guideline and adjust as necessary. When it starts to cross from "spirited" to "pissing match" we'll step in accordingly. Has anyone invited Ainsle yet? :D
I realize it's asking a lot. Cave divers in particular tend to have strong egos, but most also have a lot more maturity than they demonstrate here on the board - if they did not, a lot mnore of them woudl be dying a lot sooner.

The implication is that the problematic posts are done by choice . Consequently, I don't think it is unreasonable to expect a bit of the restaint they generally should be using in polite company to be used here.

An approach of creating a community standard along those lines, with the potential benefits Jim Wyatt describes, will be much more effective that just posting the same old excuse that this group is not known for subtley and in effect opening the pool for the same old "business as usual" behaviors.

There are many people here who have excellent knowledge, but their presentation has historically been so poor, antagonistic or outright offensive that they lose a large percentage of their potentrial audience and/or their contributions gets lost in the arguments and that is unfortunate.
