I was in TX a few years ago - do you have live armadillos there? The only live one I saw on the freeway didn't survive under the wheels of my truck AND trailer - made a heck of a speed bump, though!

No, all the armadillos here are dead.

I'm assuming that Texas is either where they all come to die, or they have a life cycle similar to the mayfly. Has anyone ever seen a baby armadillo? No.

My hypothesis is that they are born and have 24 hours to hitch a ride to Texas to deposit their carcasses on our freeways. Or maybe they are just suicidally depressed. I'd hate life if I was a silver-grey rodent also. Well, either way these deathwish or shortlife-span vermin should also look at other state highways to paint red. I suggest Alaska. They can't get any further away, and I don't think they can swim to Hawaii.
