Look at the results of your rant, on one hand we have some great feedback about new divers and why people might post more than they dive and on the other hand we have had a great suggestion and now a feature addition to help sole your original issue... what more could you ask for from a complaint :multi:
Mr. Wizard here did it, but - I am going to tell a few friends that it was my idea! :D

My 10 gallon hat is off to you Don.

I thought the badges where for contributing members....
what do I do to make it happen?
I think all you need to do is register for the Instructors Only forum? From: http://www.scubaboard.com/showthread.php?threadid=35542&s=

NetDoc:
It's the forum you just can't see! That's right, www.Scubaboard.com has a new semi-private forum that is JUST for Scuba Instructors and other dive professionals. It's not that we want to hide from the world, but we do want to have discussions that we might not want our students to read!

It is NOT a place for agency bashing.
It is NOT a place for flaming fellow instructors.
It is NOT a place to feed your ego.

But it IS a place for speaking your mind
*about what you are doing right
*about problems you may encounter in your classes
*about advice (both getting and giving)
*about diving issues affecting board members
*about industry issues affecting us as dive professionals

If you are interested, we want to hear from you! Here are the "Instructor to Instructor" access requirements:

1) You must be an active Scuba Instructor, Assistant Instructor, Divemaster or equivalent with a recognized agency.
2) In order to validate your credentials you will need to submit your applications HERE!!! Don't forget to include the following:
*Full name
*Contact phone number
*E-Mail address
*Agency & Instructor number
3) You must also add the correct information to the "Agency/Level/ID number" field in your user profile.

Lastly, be patient! We expect a large number of initial applicants and we only have a finite number of fingers to type in the info! We will also take the time to validate your status with your agency. You will be notified of your acceptance via PM and you will see a new forum magically appear near the bottom of the forum list.

Come in with an open mind, and leave with a wealth of new ideas!

wedivebc:
I have been registered for that forum for a while. There must be more than that?

Oh, okay - I'll look into it and PM you in a day or two. Oops.

You guys rock! The original rant was somewhat tounge in cheek but I really think this is a great thing you've done here. I guess that's why I spend so much time here. My dive tomorrow got cancelled so I will try to lurk some more lest my post count creep up too high ;)

Well since Dave seems to have a sense of humor.......I was wondering if that outfit or 'kit' you're wearing in your profile cost more than my first car? $8,532.22 USD?? :11ztongue

I hope one day to be able to get that much 'stuff' hanging off my Christmas tree. :D

Well I guess I should go lurk, since I'm not diving (and my posts FAR exceed my dives) and don't even own any gear yet......(I'd buy some, but seems DAVE is wearing it all)

I'm hoping he didn't buy up ALL the neon pink fins though....... :lol2:

I'm going freediving in the bathtub now..........

hmmm...just to toss another point of view..
Not a new diver, but new to this site.

I don't want to advertise my #of dives, cert levels, etc - because all you hear in my neck of the woods are divers beating their chests on how experienced they are. I think a rational and sensible point of view should be rational and sensible no matter who says it. I've met total idiots with "thousands" of dives, and beginners whom I've picked things up from.

Through my experiences I've come to learn the high propensity for inverted correlation between spewing one's "talent" for diving vs. one's actual skill, attitude, and knowledge. Don't find that here on the board so much- so maybe it's different - but travel to my neck of the woods and there's a few folks who rank diving talent with going to the moon.

opiniongirl,
No problem there... some people want to put their credentials out in the open and others merely show their wisdom in their words. Advice comes from all sorts of people at all sorts of levels and hopefully everyone here can see past the numbers to understand what is good advice and what is not.

Gosh, I hope I can convey this without sounding rude? I if fail, my apologies.

I guess you can talk like that in confidence because you know yourself, but I don't know you - ergo, it sounds like talk like a bluffing OW with 7 dives. I have a pretty good start on my diving for a desert dweller with 3-1/2 years into his first card, but I'm always eager to learn, with SB being an excellent location for the quest. If you listed validating credentials, I could feel more confortable learning from you. If you decline, I'll have to be suspect of anything you may offer in time. And you may well be a superior diver who can prove herself in every post, but you'll have to do it over and over with your approach.

Having no idea where your "neck of the woods" might be, even that doesn't work well for me. I am quite familiar with "baggards talk a lot; accomplishers don't have time," but I want to recognize the accomplsihed and learn more from them/y'all.

Hope you decide to exit the closet soon. :geek: We already have plenty of unfounded opinions.

I'll bet the kit cost more than that car.

Let's not forget those of us with lots of dive experience who still think passing gas is funny and only offer silly and bizzare posts that bewilder good honest, hard-working folks like yourselves. What should we do with them... send them money?
