I am glad that I wasn't the only on that noticed this. I could say who I think it is but it is none of my business. I still have to agree that someone that ISN'T EVEN CERTIFIED has no business giving advice. I really don't think I want to dive with him once he is certified even if he lives real close to me.

My post count way exceeds my dive count, but i am trying to redress the balance ;)

Beyond the newbies asking questions and starting up their post count, there are many threads that have nothing to do with diving - humour, women issues (which i hardly post to), hurricanes (at least in the FL section), whining and many more - should those who dont dive be barred from those discussions too??? ;)

If they took away the post count, it dont think it would matter to anyone, its the same as how long you have been on here, just cos you are new doesnt mean you havent dove recently - location, your est of number of dives (recent addition to profile) are both useful in a sense - i dont check the profile of everyone to see how many dives they have done etc, only if the reasoning or arguements seem a little off in the limited experience i have had interacting with divers and on this board.

I suggested this once in someone elses rant but now it really hits home when you read a post from a guy with over 200 posts and is not even OW trained. Post count should not exceed dive count!
<snip>

If I subtract all my additions in the Introductions and Greets forum I should be there. ;)

Just think, if you only have a few dives, you can easily double or triple your dives over a weeks vacation. I might just have to get back to you in about 20 years, when my dive count catches up to my post count.

I am with the cnptr133 not that I am against asking questions just keeping it within the reference of experience, not conjecture

Scubaboard covers lots of topics beside/including scuba. I'm pretty sure your don't need 10,000 dive to be able to give your opinion on a mask you've used & like, a hotel review, the pros & cons of diving w/ a tampon, peeing in your wet suit, not peeing in your dry suit, a movie review, what kind of tattoo you have, saying hello to 5,000 new members, your new bc purchase, your friend passing away, your child being born, a favorite recipe for skunk pie...I think you get the idea.

There will always be somebody who knows more than you. And has more experience than you. Where should we draw the line of being able to put in your 2 cents?

Sure I agree! keep it real, if it is a fact there's no problem

Exactly what Kat says...if you think this board is all about Scuba diving...you are wrong. This forum alone is just a small footprint on the community as a whole. There are plenty of non-divers who visit this board who enjoy if very much so.

Neither post count or dive count matter IMO. The quality of post is what matters. I am fairly certain that bad advice gets quickly righted here. There are PLENTY of dive "cops" here keeping an eye out (for us, thanks).

So, if the advice is correct but someone is a bad diver or new diver how is it relevant? It actually means that YOU guys are being successful in teaching US. We have assimilated the information you are giving us and passing it on. You can then fine tune it. It actually helps us learn and you by not having to type some of the same stuff over and over. Hopefully as a group we can all become more proficient at the “art” and increase the general body of knowledge.

BTW, one of the ways I learn sometimes is to try to figure out the answer to someone’s post by research. I sometimes post the answer I’ve come up with. It is a very good way for me to figure out how well I understood the question / concept and answer based on the following responses. If I’m out of line in my thinking, please let me know.

Thanks,

Mark

The guy wanting to get certified right awat? Aggressive, yes, but I haven't seen his advice giving?

Easy to call him on. "Dang, that strong advice from somone not yet certified?" :wtf: He may not realize that his water has been turned off, though?
