I suggested this once in someone elses rant but now it really hits home when you read a post from a guy with over 200 posts and is not even OW trained. Post count should not exceed dive count!
Sure everyone has an opinion but this forum is designed for people to share their EXPERIENCE with other divers. You need to dive to gain dive experience. You can't be learing to dive on scubaboard and then regurgitating information you read here as if you are an expert. I for one read a persons profile so I know if the information offered is offered from experience in-water or on-line.
My advice is step away from the keyboard and go dive, then tell us about it

I have actually learned a lot here......... Some very experienced divers on this board.

Yes, that way you can come back to the board, and tell people what not to do........if you survived, nice.

HMMMMM seems to be a small flaw in my logic, I still hate reading posts, offering advice from people who have less dive experience than advising experience. :crafty:

You are so right on.

What I find extremely entertaining are the ones offering advice like they've been diving forever but really are just newbies like me. LOL

I think that they should get rid of post count altogether.

Who cares!

Newbies have lots of questions. How are they supposed to get those questions answered if they can't post because they haven't dove more times than they have posted?

If we were all experts with hundreds of dives this would be a pretty boring place...

Ditto!

Go ahead and read my profile and you'll see I'm a newbie and proud of it. I use this board to learn from other people's experiences and mistakes. I also use it to meet other divers to socialize with and go diving with so I can gain this experience. I know enough people in the scuba industry that I don't usually have to get on here and ask a lot of technical questions. I don't bother giving my opinion unless it is something I have experience with, which right now isn't a whole hell of a lot. It's not from a lacking of not trying. It's actually harder than I thought trying to get someone to go diving with around here. If you don't like someones post just ignore it and move on. Most of the time those people are trying to overcompensate for something they're lacking.

You mean - I'd have to stop posting untilk I get 4600 more dives.

I think I am qualified to say Post Counts Mean Nothing Here! Indeed, I just tried to change my Sig to say that, but ran into a character count issue.

BTW, several of us on the Greeter Team encourage new Intro members to complete their Profiles, and seperately - their Dive Info, as an aid to future discussions. We don't get to greet them all, though, and some just don't. Ask people to do that yourself.

And always check a members Profile & Dive Info. If it's empty, assume that they are OW students. :D
