That is a shame - I think those affected - ie: dive/snorkel operators should have been permitted entry FIRST before the general public who have no vested interest. I was off island Monday so couldn't personally attend, but I would have been PISSED if I couldn't get in and island residents with no vested interest were in there. That was poorly handled.

Since so many people's lives have been made unbearable by the closure, what with the thought of having only substandard diving to do, I am going to step up here and help you out. Although I'm not sure it's worth it, I will take over some of your reservations and do your vacation trip for you, wherever diving is left, after paying you 25% of your cost. So, ya'all can make an offer, and if I like your reservation enough I'll purchase it (at the aforementioned discount), and things won't be a total loss for you, and I'll just suffer on the lamer bits of reef left.

So, as an actual scientist who leads a group of scientists (but not marine biologists), this shut down concerns me.

It is very likely that everything they are proposing is ad hoc and not scientifically derived or controlled. In spite of this, it is very likely they will observe some improvement in the corals as the waters cool for the winter after a summer at 85-86 F.

Then in January their psuedoscience will conclude the closure helped and the result will be future closures based on bunk science.

Edit: I am betting Memo (above) sees diseased brain corals up north in those hidden spots he dives that only they go to.

The other aspect is that the dive community apparently was not involved until just days ago. Consider this unconfirmed until one or more dive ops verify it.

I was sitting right behind Jen I guess, never seen the commotion - I got there about ten minutes before the meeting and seen no police on the streets except one driving by, I did see the few by the door on the way out and pictures of others.

Realistically, I thought everyone in the room handled themselves real well, very well.

Nice. I would get in on that. You know it is always, we got to see the beauty of gardens or the towers of Columbia of the fish and such of CS. I have gone to the biggies with alot of people who were seeing it for the first time. Its always cool to see their wonder at it.

Me? I love them all, I don't care. You know after diving the c-53 twice I was like this is BS. I really never need to come here again. Then I brought my niece down this year and she 'wanted the tshirt' so to speak so we went to the wreck. She loved it. And you know I stopped inside and played the light across those glassy sweepers and thought ok this is pretty cool. Just stopped and watched them for bit. (and yes.... took the porthole pics.... again....)

And I love paradiso. I can drag out a tank there for close to 2 hours and still be loving it. I imagine I might hate diving it with 4 million snorkels and all the Columbia Shallows people. (you know who you are.) I like Bolognes and Chakanaab too. Heck, I would dive any of them.

I guess some people are not going to go. I gotta admit is was nice and quiet when we went diving during the whole swine flu thing. Got some really good deals on that.

I just wonder what the point is. With the coral dying, giant corals my friends tell me have been there for at least 30 years stone cold dead, what will closing those reefs do? I mean we can see it will take money out of the pockets of the work people in the marina. That is going to happen just from what we read here. What exactly is it going to do for the reef? Less people kicking the coral as it dies? Makes me sad to watch...

I did post pics of cops outside and they did arrive later. Maybe they were late for the meeting or maybe they came hearing the possibility of a ruckus. And almost fight was outside. There was a lot of annoyance with "yea we get that this is how you feed your family, but hey the place if full, go watch it on Facebook Live"
