God bless all of you! Thank you all so much for your prayers and concern. We made another break through today!! He is down to 55% 02 and they were finally able to move the peep from 15% to 12% and his 02 and C02 is within normal ranges. They finally diagnosed the source of the fever but it and his white blood cell count had already gotten better by the time the results of the culture were in. He has 2 infections, one common to hospital stays and one an anti-biotic resistant pneumonia but the extreme broad spectrum antibiotic they were giving him seems to be working so they didn't change it.
Even the doctor who told my daughter Sunday that he would not be coming home is astonished. He said Zach was the exception to the rule and the text book was thrown out and he was deciding day by day what to do next! I ask for your continued prayers to guide the doctors in unknown territory to treat Zach.
We are truly blessed!

Thank God!

Thanks for the update Denise. As much as doctors know, they don't know a whole lot. They do they best the can and expect certain results, but in the end, they too are waiting to see what will happen.

So glad you got some good news. Will keep praying and continue that the coming days bring a little more good news every day.

We will continue to pray for Zach.

This brings tears to my eyes! Praise God! I'm so happy, and will continue to be praying for his recovery. Wow, God is good! :)

Good news in a bad situation and you have them of course!

you're on two more prayer lists here in nc...hang in, zach!

Today makes 4 weeks. Zach's turn around was literally when they turned him around "on his tummy". The problem now is when they turned him on his back in order to stabilize him for the trach his stats started declining again. After a day and a half, they had to turn him on his tummy again. As of today, his peep is at 10% (15% is the max and 5% is normal lung operation) and his 02 through the respirator is down to 40% and his 02 blood saturation is in the 90's. This is what the doctor wanted him to be at to do the trach but he needs to be on his back. This is the second time his stats declined when moving him onto his back. We await the third try within the next few days. The doctors believe he will do much better with the trach. They have even begun to think about trying it while he is on his tummy. We will see what the next few days bring.
Thanks everyone for your continued prayers.
