Good trip insurance would have paid for treatment at a medical facility, but not after self-treating with an illegal drug. The ambulance and hospital are surely cheaper than in the US, but they're still on her.
Fortunately a paramedic from an adjoining room promptly began CPR until the ambulance arrived, saved her life and she then got three days in the hospital.

Was this an actual pharmacy or one of those places that advertises VIAGRA in foot-high letters? Because I would be careful of the latter but the former seem extremely reliable.
THE PHARMACYS I WOULD TRUST ARE: DORY, AHORRA, YZA and certainly not the store front ones on the square area.

Those of us that live here do not buy our medications from those closet sized pharmacies or really any of them in the tourist areas. I'm not even sure of the name, but generally I use the one on 30 and 11 - it is in town, a big place and generally carry anything you would get prescribed....

Unreal selling that crap here or anywhere for that matter... In any civilized society, that would be reported and pharmacies would get inspected - instead we get immigration chasing hookers and closing bars for no reason...

Not Similares?

Not Similares?
We've purchased things from them, and never felt like we bought junk, but certainly don't have the same degree of confidence.
Knew an expat in Playa, (~20 years), and he wouldn't darken their doorway for meds. While I'd definitely describe him as sane, he was ---- uh---- eccentric.:)
Our condo is kitty corner from a Similares. They fill a ton of prescriptions.

Another thing that makes Similares tempting: Everything is 50% off on Mondays.

Yeah, I noticed that Monday thing.

I guess we all know that illicit pills can look like the oxycontin. norco, xanex: as mass producedand are widely available and kill thousands in the US every month among the young who buy street drugs. I guess that it is easier to expect in the US but these fentenal laced killers are showing up in small drugstores…in Cozumel! and will kill.

Last week one of our guests at the Villa Aldora experienced a serious migraine headache, and searched several downtown, street front stores where she was able to buy some illegal but properly marked Percocet. When back to the Villa, took one and within one hour she stopped breathing and no heartbeat was detected. Fortunately a paramedic from an adjoining room promptly began CPR until the ambulance arrived, saved her life and she then got three days in the hospital.

Keep in mind that Percocet and all opioids, and the like are COMPLETELY ILLEGAL in Mexico and if any of that crap is offered to you—bet there is a good chance it will KILL YOU. FOR GODS SAKE BE CAREFUL.

ALDORA
Thank you for posting this valuable information, and very happy that this woman had a good outcome.

Best regards,

I agree with your list but have also heard that the pharmacy operated in the International hospital, across from your old shop, is also reputable and has very competitive pricing.

sorry all but what am i missing here?

did you mean to write "illegal"? i assume you did.

so am i understanding that one of your guests knowingly bought an illegal drug and it almost killed her?

before i comment i just wanted make sure this was accurate.

I think with the general thinking that all drugs are legal here, someone could think percocet would be legal here. I don't know pills, I've heard of percocet in the sense of an abused pain killer, maybe I have heard of it prescribed - but that drug seems old in the abuse sense.

My very soon to be ex wife bought Tramadol here, I think that was something for pain.

Nobody selling you anything will say it's illegal here.
