Andy, how many times have said I don't want to ban any type of dog?

I think the problem is we have different goals. You may want to solve the problem from a societal perspective. I just want to make choices that are good for me. You all want to hire the painter that wants his Pit Bull to sit outside your house, be my guest. Me, I will hire the other guy probably. I don't care about his feelings, I don't care about being fair, I just do what is good for me in many situations.

Tamas, you are not making sense.

we're going around in circles...

i already posted a response to this:

if you think your kids are safe with german sherperds, you could be wrong.
the owners may be idiots and the dog may be dangerous.

if you think your kids are unsafe with pit bulls, you could be wrong.
the owners may be awesome and the dog may be great with kids.

the breed of the dog is not controlling as to its behavior.

Which is fine and is entirely your own right to associate with whomever you wish.

BUT what I am trying to bring to the surface is the wrong we are doing here with eliminating one breed of animal......call it genocide if you will because that what it is - is that right all of a sudden because we say it is? Didn't a whole nation suffer for it because of some wrong choices they made a few years back? Why is it ok all of a sudden? Because it's a dog and not some human?

you are perfectly right Andy, it's not the dog that is dangerous but rather the misconception that humans have over certain breeds that is the issue

yea, the debate is over. We are not going to change each other's minds. I think more people agree with me though. There was a flicker of hope for you when you conceded the worst animals were probably not getting culled.

but it doesn't mean they are right!

there have been a lot of nasty things that people did over the course of our history just because they agreed with a philosophy and were led to believe that they were right -- and now are starting to realize just how wrong it really was

once you start the ball rolling it is very difficult for people to distinguish from right to wrong, when they have been made to believe that their believes are right and know of no other "truth" -- the mob mentality!

haven't we learned from our mistakes yet?

Tamas:
ok that is fine then, one bad apple....but put down? are you serious? you cannot be seriously thinking that?! please tell me you have more love for nature and animals than that?!

kill an other animal because it's doing what it was designed to do? to be a wild dog, to hunt to eat...to whatever? remember people, we are the ones infringing on their territory (as abstract as that might seem) they were here first, we are only on top of the food chain because we have bigger brains.

I have had a number of very close encounters with dogs in my life but I never "wished" or "hoped" for that animal to be put done just because it invaded my little space and made me feel uncomfortable.

this is the problem with humanity, this is what makes me sick - most people today are wanting, needing and requiring instant gratification and lack the brain power to understand their own actions and those that will fall in line after the initial action

I've gone back and added to my original post (before I saw this response). I do NOT advocate putting dogs down but this dog attacked 2 times on 2 different occasions. I'm sorry but I don't believe that dog is redeemable. I do not blame the dog, it is the owner that, in the end, should be put down.

I would not mind seeing a bunch of ill disciplined pit bulls at one of our local dive sites. Especially if they are 30 ft down with concrete blocks around their necks. Several people in my area have been attacked by these dogs. Especially dangerous are when there are two or more of them. The pack mentality takes over and thanks to owners who should also be put down it becomes a lethal situation. And for my money guns are indeed the answer to this problem. My buddy who is a meter reader can only carry mace. Given the option a glock .40 would be his choice. Any dog can be dangerous if provoked. All of the attacks on people by pit bulls in this area were unprovoked. Either a child out playing or a pedestrian just out for a walk. Several of these were also repeat offenders. The owners were told to muzzle and restrain. If the owner refuses then either the owner or the dog needs to be put down. PETA would most likely prefer the former. Until one of them got bit. One bite on a person and any dog I owned would soon be dispatched.

Tamas:
could you help me out for a sec, where was that?

ANDY said it, right after Lynne posted. When he still was thinking clearly. I think it was an unfettered spontaneous thought, unfiltered by years of education and Google searches.
