Hey there Jon,

I'm not sure if the other people who have posted actually mean Puerto Galera or Sabang but I would like to put my two cents worth in and say Sabang is the place.

There's a great wreck dive just off the beach, a couple of nice wall dives, plenty of soft coral dives, mandarin fish dive site. Lots of cool stuff to see including barracuda, nurse sharks (Shark Cave), turtles, ghost pipefish, nudibranchs galore, various kinds of shrimp (emperor, Coleman, crinoid, hingebeak, banded, mantis, etc), pygmy seahorses...The list goes on and on. Super place for macro if you're into photography.

The dive operator we dove with is Asia Divers (http://www.elgalleon.com/asiadivers/index.php) who operate out of El Galleon Beach Resort (http://www.elgalleon.com/) right on Sabang Beach. The dive shop is great, very professionally run and accommodating. The rooms at the hotel are reasonably priced. The ones "poolside" are less expensive and, to be honest, pretty basic even though they do have hot showers and A/C. But if you're out diving all day, what more do you need.

Cheers from Thailand.

This high season crap doesn't work well with my "spur of the moment" holidays booked 4 days before departure... :(

It's a learning experience Zee...this early me and some of the PPDs and pasaways are already booking for a December 2006 dive in Southern Leyte where we hope too see and dive with whalesharks.

FYI, low season (vacation resorts and diving) in the Philippines is from mid June to October.

Heh... not to worry, I already know - I travel often enough, I just have ahabit of "just deciding to go" and not really caring, because everything usually ends up good in the end anyway :)
