Easy to do, yes, cheap, nope. This will take big bucks.
Really? 24 tanks per person...... how many people to make it reasonably valid?

Considering the effect it would have if proven to be true you'd have thought someone might want to fund it.

After all....... if it was REALLY proven that a) one will feel better, and b) it's absolutely better for you to dive, especially getting older...... well......there's a heck of a lot of older people diving these days compared to twenty years ago......

What would be the really cost (cash) for something like this do you think?

Depends on how big we make the study. Let's look at 10 divers on air and 10 on nitrox. Assume the diving is $100/person/day (might be difficult to get this rate, especially with rising fuel prices). Let's assume tanks and weights are tossed in for free (it happens) and that we get a $75 add on per person for nitrox. 20 dives at $100/day = $2000 per day. You mentioned 24 tanks per person, I'm assuming you are looking at 4 dives/day for 6 days. 6 days at $2000/day = $12,000. Add in the $75/person for nitrox and we're at $12,750 just for the diving.
