Hi -
I'm trying to understand the pros/cons of the PADI DPP vs DAN insurance. It looks like the DPP might be a better insurance package (includes international coverage at the same price points), but that it would still be good/appropriate to become a DAN member, simply to support diving.

(In other words, perhaps do the PADI DPP, but join DAN too)

Thoughts/comments?

Thanks.

I found this site on the web awhile back and kept it bookmarked. It breaks down DAN vs PADI in ALOT of detail. It should be what you're looking for I think.

I personally went with DAN since I work at Duke University and I'd like to support them for that reason + all the other things they do for diving research. I'm also a SSI diver, not Padi, so I didn't really get much info on PADI's insurance.

Read this: Doc Vikingos
then decide for yourself.

Thanks -- good information :)

rodales had a good comparison of all the different insurance programs. Dan is still the best for the money i found when researching the other alternatives when i had to reup. Been a member of dan for 10 years now. Check out this link to rodales adn look at the chart that compares each company.

good luck as they are all close to what the other offers, and read the fine print to each.

Dan is better and more comprehensive. There is even coverage for traveling outside of the country and not even diving I believe

Also doesnt DAN ins come with an excellent magazine subscription ?

Just check out scubadiving.coms insurance article (you'll have to search) were they compared the insurances side by side. Dan was more comprehensive at the higher levels including injury while traveling abroad and not even diving. Doesn't DAN also cover deeper depths.

I think I'm all set, thanks.

Since I expect most of my diving to be > 50 miles, and that I'll be doing some dive vacations, the DAN plans look pretty good

I'll probably still join PADI, to support my certifying org.

(I'm admittedly new to this stuff, can only learn by asking.)

Thanks again.

I have PADI by the way mainly because I don't plan on dive vacationing soon and I have othe med insurance at present time. If was was without any insurance at all, I would go DAN. Actually though I'm not too sure what my regular insurance would pick up but its the best coverage the state has to offer and is non-referral so it may pick up some things. Has no diving disclaimers that I know of.
