Tom Winters:
Those guys? Ah yes, the theory of plausible deniability once again. Your neighbor George has trained you well Brian...he must be very proud... :browsmile

I never said I wasn't one of "those guys", now did I ;) It's a good thing George and I are insulated behind the gates out here. ;)

What are you doing on 2/12?

Okay, after much consideration, I think I've decided on my set up:

Oxycheq Single Cylinder SS 30# wings
FredT SS (about 6# negative)
FredT STA (about 2# negative)
Hogarthian harness

You guys are right, get the single wing now, and the double wing later. There will always be occasions when I'm going to dive a single, even after I get doubles, so I might as well have both configurations. And I think I'll be able to get the most flexibility out of this set up for the type of diving I'll do in it.

With a 3m full, a single AL 80 and AL 50 pony, 4lbs will get me neutral in fresh water. It's not often I dive this way though. Most of my diving occurs in salt (add another 4lbs) or in fresh water wearing a cf drysuit (add lots of lbs, especially when wearing my 200g thinsulate).

The plan is to get into doubles at the end of the year, so I'll get the Oxycheq Double Cylinder Dual bladder 50# wings and FredT AL bp then. That set up should be good for diving dry most of the time...and I can always use the SS bp if I need more weight (with the thinsulate).

So, before I make the big purchase, I'm just looking for some last lingering comments, especially if anyone thinks the choice I made may not be the best one.
I'm not married to this set up yet, so tell me if anything is wrong before it's too late.

Like I said before, bp/w and tech gear is not a big thing where I'm at, so I can't really ask around here. My choice was made based on comments made in this and other threads and my own diving profile. However, since I haven't had an opportunity to dive bp/w (and won't be able to before the purchase), my knowledge is limited. I appreciate all your comments. Thanks again.

OneBrightGator:
Have you talked to an Oxy dealer about a package deal though? Might be cheaper...

Not yet. But I've priced both the koplin bp and sta (which is what oxycheq.com states they use) and FredT's. They're competitively priced, but I like the fact that Fred offers a finished version which wears less on the wing. That's worth a few extra $$$.

deepstops:
You mean the harness, right?

Actually, FredT says he files around the edges of the bp to eliminate excessive wear on the wing and drysuit. The harness isn't much of a consideration since I think it would take a while for it to wear it down enough to require replacement, and the cost of a Hogarthian would only be about $15. Is this not enough of a problem to warrant the extra cost?

I'm pretty sure the Oxycheq plates are finished too, at least give COVCI a call before you make the final decision.

I'll definitely do that. Any $$$ saved is $$$ for more toys...

So, what is your end of story?

You got the gears as you planed above or a whole Oxycheq package deal?

If you don't mind, please list out your decision and price.
It will be a good information to others who are in the same boat.

Thanks
