I got a little side tracked. Had some family medical issues come up, then I went to Belize, so the new gear purchase was shoved to the side for a bit. I'm back now, though, and will be completing the deal soon. I'll post info then.

The Dive Rite STA fits the Oxycheq wings. I have wings from both manufactures - this whole discussion is actually win-win here for a change.
Just to add a new tangent, take a look at Deep Sea Supply over in Pasadena. These guys are making some pretty nice gear also:

Dive-aholic,

Ok, I see. I don't know why, but I guess you might decide on Oxycheq.
I look forward to your next posting about the final set up.

I am also in the same boat as Dive-aholic is. I have read though almost all threads about BP/W set up including Fred T, Hammerhead, and Deep Sea Supply. I found out that each plate has its own pros and cons. The Deep Sea Supply’s plate has the great plastic molding for zero webbing wear though. It is somehow pricey to me unless it does come with the package deal.

BTW, thanks for your post with expert knowledge in this board.

If you want to buy a bp/wing i would reccomend getting a single cylinder wing and then a doubles wing because its a lot easier to just switch your plate from one to the other instead of getting one wing for both single and double. I personally am a fan of the Oxycheq single and double wings.

Backplates I would not recommend getting a plastic one mainly because putting a tank on it puts a lot of stress on it and it could possibly break on you in the middle of a trip then your screwed. So get an Aluminum plate or stainless steel either one will do just fine.

All plates and STA's will fit pretty much every plate because just about all the tech manufacturers make an 11 in. center so you can put the STA on any plate and wing setup you got. Also, you may want to invest in a weighted STA so you don't have to carry any weight in a pocket or wear a weight belt.

I hope this helps in your decision.

Have fun and dive safe.

Hi,

How about the OMS SS or Alu Backplates? :06:

Is the Oxycheq 30 lbs Signature Wing, a DIR wing? :06:

Any "pull dump" on the inflator hose, and any differences from other DIR wings?

Is the repair easy to the inner bladder...........

Cheers. ;)

Yip,

The only thing that would make an OxyCheq wing not be "strict" DIR is the plastic knob on the rear pull dump string. Which is easily fixed with a pair of scissors if you want to be strict about it - most people leave them on. Personally the only time I've seen this knob cause problems was on a bungeed wing where it was trapped under a bungee cord, holding the rear dump open as the wing filled, and the guy's wing was dumping air as fast as he could inflate it. Seeing as there's no bungee on any of the OxyCheq wings, not a problem.

There's no pull dump on the shoulder hose.

The inner bladder is heavy duty urethane - if anything was to get through the urethane backed outer cordura cover, it's easy to repair. No-one I've sold the wings to yet has coming asking for repair advice though, which says something about the overall construction of the wings :)

Should it ever be required though, the bladder is circular, and there is a zipper on the outer shell that unzips the wing, and the entire bladder can be removed and replaced with the appropriate tools (matched pair of delrin tools to remove & replace the pull dump and shoulder elbow inserts).

cheers

Okay, after lots of research here on the Board (this and other threads) and everywhere else I could find information, I finally made my decision and purchase. I decided on an Oxycheq Signature series 45# lift wing and FredT alum bp and light sta and the Hogarthian harness rather than a prefab.

Now the why - Oxycheq is very streamlined, it's a "donut" wing rather than a horseshoe, no bungee, and the 45# is the same size as the 30# when deflated. I dive dry quite a bit. I could probably get by with a 30# wing, but why "get by". I'd rather have the extra insurance, especially when the wing is essentially the same size. I bought this, and a lot of other stuff from Larry (ScubaToys). I'll be posting a review of this transaction later. I will say that it definitely exceeded my expectations! :D Thanks Larry!

FredT - it's finished, which means less wear on the webbing and Fred offers a variety of sizes and weights. This is my first bp. I dive dry, but I also like my occasional trip to warm water and nothing but a 3mm ;) I can throw some weight on a belt when I dive dry with the alum, but I can't shave weight off ss to dive 3mm. After I've gotten used to this set up and recovered from the expenditure I just experienced, I'll be ordering some more plates of varying weights from Fred. Soon the house will be full of them! Fred was great help. I was having trouble figuring out bp length, so I just shot him a couple of photos through e-mail and he set us right up. He was also very helpful in making sure we get all the stuff we need to set up our rigs. It's tough doing this with no local resources. Thanks, Fred!

Okay, we don't actually have the stuff yet. It should all be here by Monday. We'll take it to the pool Thursday to try it out, then dive Friday or Saturday. I'll post another report then. I can't wait!

Dive Rite wing. Got one and like it. Not a big fan of the Dive Rite plates. I like the Hammerhead way better. Its much more substancial and I also like the beef in their single tank adapters. If your diving any cold water the Hammerhead Stainless is tuff to beat. www.hammerheadscuba.com Buying a package deal is like buying an all in one stereo. One of the components is going to be lame. Just my opinion but you came to the right site for lots of good info. Enjoy your research and safe diving!
