In the process of making the conversion from a back inflate to bp/w set up. After hours of SB searching and other online searches, I think I've narrowed it down to Oxycheq and Diverite. Okay, before anyone tells me to go to my LDS and see what they have - they don't. I live in AZ and I haven't come across any shops in the state that carry either of these. So I have to make this purchase online without the benefit of seeing it in person.

Anyway, here's my assessment:

1. dual bladder with about 50 lbs of lift, Oxycheq makes one and DR has the dual rec. I'm leaning towards Oxy because it looks like it will create less drag.

2. ~5# ss bp capable of being converted for use with a single tank, both have it, but I think I like the DR bp single tank converter better. I'm not sure if Oxy/DR are compatible. They weren't a couple of years ago according to one thread here on SB. I've read a lot of stuff about FredT here on the Board, but can't find info on it anywhere else.

3. simple harness system, not sure which way to go on this, might just do a DIY, but I will need to clip lights, etc.

Type of diving I do:

1. fresh water and sea water, drysuit half the time, 3mm the other half, depends on the time of year and the location.

2. getting into tech diving, specifically deep/wrecks c some penetration right now, planning on progressive penetrations in the future.

3. cave diving.

I'd like to check out these setups somewhere, but don't know when I'll come across an LDS that carries the stuff and would like to make the transition sooner rather than later.

So, without flaming anyone (if possible), I'd just like the pros and cons of these bp/w's and how they do underwater. If you have any suggestions other than these systems, I'm still open to them. Thanks.

If you decide to go DR, they have several TecRec stores across the country. Go to www.diverite.com and find where the nearest is to you.

Also....if one is not near.....go to www.northeastscubasupply.com
as they are a DR TecRec site. The key thing about that is they sell DR gear over the internet with DR's full approval (I called DR) and the warrantee is fully backed.

Northeast has a complete bp and wing deal usually going on for only $449....that would be the TransPlate and your choice from severval wings and weigh pockets. If you go to the website and dont see the deal....call....they will probably give it to you anyway.

From their site:

Famous name harness and backplate Combo. We buy bulk to save you BIG money. This price is so low that the Manufacturer won’t let us use their name if we print the price here.

Here’s what you get:

Stanless steel (6lb.) or Aluminum Backplate
Your Choice of harness:
One piece Horgarthian harness
Deluxe harness with chest strap
Your Choice of wing:
Doubles Wing with 59 pounds of lift
Single/Double wing with 51 pounds of lift
Single Wing with 40 pounds of lift
"O" style Singles Wing with 30 pounds of lift
Only - $329.99!

Do you want this for single or double tank diving??? The OxyCheq 50lb dual bladder wing is a doubles wing.

The OxyCheq backplate uses a simple STA with industry-standard 11" centre-to-centre holes - you can stick any wing with this size grommet spacing on an OxyCheq backplate.wing, and vice-versa with OxyCheq wings.

There are a few authorized dealers in AZ, but none of the ones I've been to carry much in stock, which means they don't order in bulk, which means a lot more money to spend on something I can order from an authorized dealer online (I'm not looking at LP, I've checked out ScubaToys, Diveriteexpress, and Oxycheq). They also don't carry what I'm looking for. It would be nice to go to an authorized dealer to get the stuff, but if I'm going to have to play the shipping game should any problems come up, I'd rather buy from someone who ships a lot to begin with. I will check out NE Scuba Supply.

evad, thanks for the info. That's a great deal. I'll have to give them a call.

Both. Mainly doubles, but I want to be able to take it on trips and adapt it for a single if I can't rent a set of doubles. I saw the 11" specs for Oxy, but haven't been able to confirm anyone else's measurements. I'm only concerned because of the thread I saw regarding incompatibility.

Thanks for responses so far. Keep 'em coming.

There are four authorized DiveRite dealers allowed (by DiveRite) to sell on the net. Only one of the four carries the complete inventory in their warehouse. When you order from the other three, they order from DR (so they are slower to get the product to you).

The stocking dealer is Dive Rite Express.

Just because it's not on our page, does not always mean we don't have it. We get lots of stuff in we don't have time to put out there... and also things like atomic regs, scubapro regs, some accessories, etc... we just don't have on the page. But since we are an authorized dealer, even if we don't have it, we can order it in pretty quick. And that would be true for any of the authorized dealers.

Dive Riet Express's customer service and after sales support is, in a word, excellent!!!
I've had nothing but super experiences when dealing with them.

Shop around and buy on price, both make quality products.

Have you talked with anyone about your gear requirements?

I would PM Grateful Diver. He has both and has a clear understanding of each one.

If you want a biased opinion (positive) on the Oxycheq then I'll be happy to tell you how I feel.
