Ill be over to the Cape to watch the Shuttle Launch on wednesday and thursday. Anyone interested in diving Orange City or Alexander Springs? Or watching the launch with me for that matter? My plan is to be at the beach south of Kennedy on Wednesday afternoon, so I can dive wednesday morning and thursday morning, before heading back.

Probably can’t get away to do any diving, but we’ll most likely head over to The Cocoa Beach Pier to watch the launch.

I can't guarentee , but Wednesday morning might work for me (dive wise)...
I'll update on Tuesday once I know my schedule better...

Don't they tighten up security around the cape during launches?
Or is this an area away from the cape?

Dunno, so I'm askin'.

Dunno, but I know the chances of a blast off are decreasing as we type....

They had a funnel cloud very near to the Cape today, I guess....

and chances ar edown to less than 60% for a launch...

They reduced the number of visitors allowed on the actual Space Center property and viewing area, but the number of expected visitors total is up to 250,000 compared to less than 150,000 for the past few launches. Unlike the last launch following 9/11, we have many more officers devoted to traffic this time instead of area security.

And just to be technically correct and proud, military rockets are launched from Cape Canaveral, the shuttle launches from the Kennedy Space Center on Merritt Island. :D

Hey do enjoy the launch you bunch of lucky sobs, would love to see it in person someday.

Night launches are the best. Just to make you a little jealous, we turn out all the lights and sit in the pool to watch them. Only being 12 miles from the launch pad we get the full effect of lighting up the sky and you can feel the vibrations in the water – but the cats aren’t too impressed by it. :D
