Osprey question, again… 90 Transporter, 120 Transporter or 100 Sojurn Shuttle

I went with the 90L and pair it with a 70L or 100L Patagonia Black Hole duffle if I am also packing for kids or girlfriend. The combination allows me to carry a ridiculous amount of gear but I am good shape. Not sure everyone could handle two large bags comfortably. If $ were no object I would buy the Patagonia Black Hole 100L but at double the price went with the Osprey. The Black Hole duffle bags are on sale now with a bit of searching.

I want to buy the Transporter 90L but most airlines have a luggage restriction of 62 linear inches. According to Osprey's listed dimensions, the linear inches is closer to 64". I was wondering if you had any issues checking this? Did you have to pay more? I'm flying American and their website states luggage over 62 linear will incur extra $30. If I use this bag everutime I fly, that adds up and I'd rather not purchase. Thanks in advance!

Flew with this checked on American many times and never had an overcharge.

My Osprey checked luggage has probably made 20 trips so far, and it's held up. Only thing that broke are the plastic clips that meant to be strap organizers, not important. I could see it do another 20 trips without issue. Would start getting awfully dirty at that point...

We are a month out on the start of the conversation, but look at the Eberlestock Atlas Duffle. It is a bit more expensive than the Osprey, but they are pretty heavy duty. It has a zippered bottom compartment that my Mares Avanti Quatro fins fit in (with room to spare), the external pockets are handy for organization. I fit my Zeagle Covert XT BCD, regulator set, wetsuit, boots, two masks in their boxes etc. in the main compartment and could put more in there. I bought one of those "Surf Banana" wetsuit carrier that all my wet gear goes in when I am done and back into the bag to move back and forth. The bag seems to dry fairly quickly.

My Osprey 90 was less than a year old when the back broke. There were a series of smaller failures before the big one. They replaced it for free after sending it back - that shipping was expensive, but certainly less than a new bag. The replacement bag is doing fine and is close to a year old. I pack it tightly so that nothing moves and get as close to 50# without going over every time. Never had any issues with airlines accepting the bag (overall dimension question). Wife also has one. Six international trips in the past year - 2 of them with multiple intermediate stops.

I use the Eagle creek 110L roller duffle. It weighs almost nothing and is very tough. I can pack all of my gear and clothes for a month in it. Overall I am very pleased with it.
