So should a driving school let a student down a 6 pack and get behind the wheel for a learning experience?

That is along the same lines as the other well known dilemmas:

1) should parents teach their children to have wine at dinner?

2) should a dad tech his son what alcoholic beverages to drink?

Or do you let the kids learn on their own?

Dilemmas.

Actually, this is where you are mistaken. This has nothing to do with being sensitive. Certain generalizations, such as those about religion, nationality, etc are just plain wrong, no matter what context you put them in, whether in jest or not. I am merely making an observation. Simply, a lot can be said about one's character by the ability (or inability, as the case may be) to take the high road, especially in the face of adversity or criticism.

Really? Actually, I think you are the one who is mistaken here. You seem to think it's OK for your countrymen to attack the character and personal opinions of another, but when someone attacks something near and dear to you it's "just plain wrong." We'll just have to agree to disagree on that one, pal. I don't care what it is about another person that is attacked...it's all wrong. There's a big difference between being critical and insulting. What they said was insulting. All I was doing was stirring the pot to give them a taste of their own medicine. It's obvious from their subsequent posts that at least one of them has some real problems.

Just as an aside...Do you think you are taking the "high road" here? :no Once you stick your nose in something you're part of it whether you like it or not. If you followed your own advice we wouldn't be having this philosophical discussion. Maybe we're just experiencing some cultural differences. Let it go...I have.

The TDI class standards are low, but give their instructors allot of leeway to add additional information to the class that in the case of a TDI class... it really does depend on a competent instructor to provide a good class.

I have to disagree that the TDI standards are low.....they do meet the needs of the level of training the course is designed to teach. I do agree that TDI instructors are given the openness to teach beyond the min. standards...and this is always a positive benefit when it comes to technical programs.

Well, I would appreciate it if you could point out where I indicate that I condone any type of behaviour using personal attacks. If I have, then I apologize.

However, perhaps I should apologize anyway since it appears that I have unintenionally struck a nerve. I would have made the same observations had you used another nationality in your comments as well, by the way. But if you think I am mistaken to think those sorts of comments are inappropriate, then I guess we will have to agree to disagree. I was brought up to believe those sorts of comments do not have any place in civilized conversations. But hey, that's just me.

ok, the bickering is beginning to get on my nerves. If you don't have something relevant to say in regards to the post then keep you fingers to your selves.

QUIT HIJACKING MY THREAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On that note, i'm really comfortable with the instructor that i have been using. He stays current, and always gives me "free" pointers here and there. I've already signed up for the 1st nitrox class for this saturday, and i'm gonna take more classes from him later. The only real reason i started this thread was because i was curious about the standards and the manuals. That being said i've made my decision, so all of you get over yourselves, and if you can't offer constructive answers, other than to flame an agency, person, piece of gear, or a newbie, then why post.

There are to many self proclaimed experts that usually don't know anything, or at least that's what i've learned.

Thank you to the few that actually had some constructive input, for the rest go argue with a wall, or send PM's.

I dont care how much TDI updates their manuals..They still promote deep air..Extended range course...180 feet on air...

Wrong again, Mr. Right. My TDI instructor never promoted diving to 185' on air. That's simply you're ill-conceived spin on it.

I know DIR fanatics don't agree, but most intelligent people understand that we're all different physiologically and emotionally, and we all have different levels of ability in many different areas. I've dove to 165' and stayed for awhile on nothing but air and didn't come back drooling and incoherent. Navy divers, at least at one time, had to be able to breathe pure O2 at 60' without convulsing. If they couldn't do it they were washed out of the program. Some could do it...some couldn't.

Likewise, some people get narced out of their mind at 150'...others don't. I'm not promoting that anyone dive deep on air, but I am saying that it can be done if a person has the physiological and mental make-up to handle it. So, just because you don't agree with deep diving on air doesn't make it wrong. If someone can handle it safely why shouldn't they be able to do it if they so choose? We're not all easy narc's.:D

LOL! Hey, we're just havin' fun at each other's expense! :D Sounds like you got your question answered, huh? Good luck with your tech courses...I think you'll enjoy it! Safe diving!!

:rofl3: That's funny! If you could see how much fun I'm having with those "gentlemen" you'd see just how relaxed I am. Maybe it's a sickness, but I've had a great time gettin' them all stirred up. LOL!!

Safe diving!
