Oops...dropped a tank!

Okay, so it wasn't me.

But I got a tank for Christmas (or I'm almost 100% sure ) and it was being "temporarily stored" at my girlfriend's mother's house until Christmas. Then, the frantic call came in to my girlfriend while I was with her...."Oh my God, they dropped your...gift!" At this point (knowing full well it was a tank) I went !

I haven't had a chance to inspect the damage yet (obviously), but I was wondering...seeing as it didn't explode...what I should look for in particular (aside from any major visible damage which I guess they didn't find)?

Note to self: Don't let non-divers handle tanks!:doh:

About the only thing you need to look for is to make sure the valve knob is intact & spinning straight.
Other than that, beat the crap out of it so's ya don't look like a pollywog.

You'll no doubt want to get a fresh air fill in it in case the air got bruised from the fall.

A dent in the side of the tank could cause trouble ,but I would be surprised if they had dropped it hard enough [or hit just wrong] to do that. As bob3 said damage to valve is most likely .

Relax... the chances are that you ruined the tank by dropping it are slim. Yes, it could happen, but they are pretty tough. I dropped an HP 120 on my toe... the toe lost! :tease: Have fun with your new toy!!!

Find out how the tank fell. Did it fall on its side or did it fall on its valve. How high did the tank fall from?

Tank damage is highly unlikely. Even valve damage is unlikely. If its a new tank, it needs VIP so when you take it to the store, they should pick the problem up if it exists.

We dropped an AL 100 on its valve twice (the same tank) on the same trip! Once out of the back of an SUV onto the parking lot and once out of the back of the same SUV onto a gravel driveway. It was fine..let someone else fill it the first time though and stay clear of the fill station

In my defense, I wasn't driving....it was Divernva...hehe. Anyway, if anything is to be learned of it, this is it: When driving an SUV that has a liftgate on the back with a bunch of tanks in the truck, always open the window portion first to make sure nothing slipped back and settled against the liftgate. That way, when you open it, nothing will fly out and land on its valve

Also of note...I am a chicken when it comes to tanks...the first time it fell, I ducked my head and ran around the truck looking for cover
