it's a GOOD thing I did not have the money in my pocket when I made the decision to scuba.
Now I am having second thoughts about a bc
aside from increased cost I am now seeing what looks like 4 basic kinds of bc
bc
integrated bc
back inflate
bp/w

lets address back-inflate vs jacket. . .is it a user preference thing mostly?
back-inflate has better prone position characteristics i'm told, but no bc will upgrade to double tank unless you get a bp/w style.
False, at least one Oceanic does and I think the Black Diamond also.
i Ultimately I would like to do tec type diving and wouldn't be asking this were I rich. I will be quite happy just getting wet (certified) with my own equipment.
I have my eyes on a seaquest latitude xlt jacket type
should i spring for a better bc? (mind you it's twice as much):11:
now how much more or less would a bp/w style run and how much more trouble?
I'd get a BP/W. Look at the new Hollis gear, some nice stuff there. Not more trouble, once you're used to it, easier.

The DSS can be purchased in one of two harness configurations. One with the quick disconnects (most likely the one you saw) and the other with the one piece hogartian harness (what I dive). Best suggestion, is contact DSS in Pasadena and order if from them on the net.

wow I must be getting close, I haven't ordered but I have made e-contact

The DSS was nice except it was cluttered with harness extras and disconnects for advanced diving and still cheaper than the dive rite. The salesman use it as a bad example. Made a negative comment about Halcyon and never mentioned them again.

I believe Ocean Adventures in Venice has both the standard 'hog' and the 'pro fit' harnesses on display, I think.

Stop in.

:rofl3::rofl3::rofl3:
This is all some kind of evil trick you divers play on lookyloos huh! Isn't it!
BAH!
Just when I thought I was close, someone says hey check out Hollis.
To make matters worse, for some reason I have gravitated towards Oceanic.
Well I do like the simple looks of the Halcyon and hear the Hollis is similar but have no clue where to find a dealer (why can't dss be in torrance or long beach).
I shall try to make every attempt at getting to Venice quickly before I change my mind AGAIN! (I can live with DSS prices, could still get a Delta4)

Go with DSS..... If you have any questions just pick up the phone and ask the man himself... He's really good about explaining things and educating people about the product. Who knows he might invite you over to the shop if it's not a busy day.

Many of my jobs required driving and I am willing to go most anyplace. Pasadena is NOT one of those places. (because of LA. traffic) HOWEVER!
If I must go to the manufacturer to get what I want, I'm glad it's only Pasadena.

Hollis is here on SB, his user name is, believe it or not, Nick Hollis. Go say hello.

And Tobin of DSS is also on the board: Cool_Hardware52

I'm going to try and get to Venice today. I have already contacted DSS with my intrests and If I can complete a rig within my range I won't succumb to the sale price BC just to get wet.

Awlrighty thennnnn.
BP/W Questions are answered
The Sports &%@!*&$ has a jacket bc for way cheap which would allow for more spent on a reg.
But this DSS BP/W is just so simple and adaptable I find myself wondering what's wrong with it.
.
Now I just need to figure out where to scrimp and save to still get a better than average reg;)
