That’s an apple. You’re a banana. I’m “sleepy” today.

ok, so i tweaked the charset manipulators. can people try to recreate the problem for me without copying from a post that's already messed up? copying like that will not prove anything because those were stored as the wrong char-codes so you'll be getting a copy of the wrong thing. thanks.

Perhaps Vista and MS Office 2007 are the problems. I hate both so I am on board with blaming both :D

I use neither Vista nor Office 2007 to copy/paste posts, but it happens to me.

I generally copy/paste to here from either a Wordpress blog or from Zendiving or TDS and get the problem.

Not including SB, I've copy/pasted between the above forums as well as other vBulletin fitness and cycling forums without ever seeing this occur before.

I'm currently using WinXP and Firefox 3.0.11, but have seen this problem here since January using earlier Firefox versions.

I'd be curious if anyone has copy/pasted from Dive Matrix or the DIRExplorer forums and had an issue (I don't visit them enough to try).

Copy one of the posts into this thread please. According to vBulletin support, it is the "fancy quotes" from Microsoft. I don't know what other vBulletin sites use for vB version, servers software, server settings, php settings, mysql settings, charsets, etc.

I already did the other day.

Here's my post link from the other thread you also responded to.

I also shared more information there about when I'm seeing it and where (all non-Microsoft related).

Let me know if there's something else you need.

It still appears as though the quote function is being read as a command to use alternate characters. vBulletin's answer is not to use "fancy quotes" which is BS if you ask me. I replied to them, "Like I'm supposed to post this in the forum rules?"

Maybe they'll come up with a fix?

What's amazing or puzzling is that vB forums aren't experiencing it consistently... especially those that have the same default char set.

Also... are they saying that an apostrophe is being interpreted as a "fancy quote"? It's mostly contractions that I've seen issues with.
