As of now, you can go to the Oceanic website and buy the VT Pro computer complete with transmitter for $669. (MSRP). The previous MSRP was $899. I presume the VT Pro's MSRP was lowered due to the onset of the VT 3 which will MSRP for ~$999.

I really think it's important to support your LDS. I even pay a little more sometimes to do so.

I asked my LDS if they could get the VT Pro at the new MSRP. They can NOT. Oceanic is not reducing the shops price to reflect the new MSRP.
IE: Joe Diver can login to Oceanic and pay $669 but have to may the higher ~899 at the LDS.

This is a very crappy thing for Oceanic to do to their retailers. Let me be clear, my dive shop is NOT charging me the higher MSRP on a computer that they have in stock. They would be forced to charge me the higher MSRP on a VT Pro they would order from OCeanic for me. Even a good LDS supporter would be hard pressed to pay $230 over the current MSRP.

I understand this may be temporary just to cleanse their own stock of the VT pro, but you can not undercut your own retailers. That is simply moronic. Oceanic should pass the new MSRP onto their retailers at the same time they lowered the MSRP

For this very reason, I will buy a different brand of compter. Am I over reacting here? Thess practices can cost a LDS a lot of money.

You are over reacting here. Oceanic dealers have been able to purchase the VT Pro at a reduced price the last two months. Oceanic also informed the dealers over 6 months ago that the VT3 was coming and when so dealers could plan stock accordingly. Now that the time is closer we don't want to have a bunch of VT Pros left over for us or our dealers thus the reduced MSRP. The idea is everyone wins, Oceanic, Dealers and end users.
The last thing Oceanic would want to do is undercut the dealer base.
By the way if you buy online from "Oceanic" you are not buying from Oceanic directly, you are buying from whichever dealer you selected when you put in the location/zip.

Now that I've explained it could you change the title to "Thanks Oceanic for the Info"?

Best,

Chris Richardson

Looks like your LDS is trying to pull a fast one on you by giving you false information and "forcing" you to buy something else from them that they make a bigger margin on - ancient LDS trick.

And thanks Chris for the explanation

Chris,

First, let me thank you for your peronal and prompt reply. Second, I'm not quite sure I am ready to change the title just yet.

Without getting into specifics with respect to names of dive shops etc... My LDS called Oceanic "today" and could not order my VT Pro with the newly reflected MSRP. Are you saying that even though you (Oceanic) has them on hand, my LDS can not order one becuase they did not order enough two months ago? What you say makes sense, but the bottom line is that as of today, my LDS can not order a VT Pro under the newly lowered MSRP.

What am I missing?

Again, thank you forr your time.

pm me your shops phone number and I'll call them and find out what is going on. It's not my territory but I'll make sure the right people get this taken care of

I agree with cerich, we were informed of the new VT3 forever ago and could plan for the phase out of the VT Pro. You should be able to pick up the VT Pro for a reduced price, the reduced MSRP should still leave your LDS enough room, so not loose any money on them (regardless of when they got them in stock).

I would NOT rest this problem on the shoulders of Oceanic, everyone we spoken with there has always been a honest straight shooter. I would question what your LDS is telling you. More in line with what Tamas said. Good luck. and the oceanic computer is wonderful...... hate to see you miss out on a great deal on the VTPro because of what your dive shop is saying.

Take Care,

Jerm

scubatoys sells them for $669.95. if scubatoys can sell them for that price, why can't your LDS?

Ok, I spoke with our National Sales Manager and with the shop involved. I can say with certainty that this was a simple case of the latest news not being passed along. The dealer in question has had some email issues and we tend to distribute many promotions via email. Unfortunatly (my wife would disagree) the regional managers aren't able to physically see each of our dealers more than a few times a year so we rely heavily on phone calls and email.

Calvin, your dive shop should be giving you a call. I believe you will be able to get a VT Pro at $669 if you wish now.

Best,

Chris

A VT Pro is shipping to your dealer Monday. I assume it will get there quick being on the left coast as you are. My poor dealers have to wait 5-6 days for ground shippment.

Can you change the title now?

Best,

Chris
