Hey all,
Just wondering if anyone has got or used the Oceanic Geo 2.0 and what you think of it? I have read a few reviews but its always good to get an opinion from people that use it day to day! Go ahead and list any pros/cons you can think of
I figure seeing as the aussie $ is doing so well, i may as well look into getting one while the goings good :)

happy diving!

Pros:

Good little computer, especially if you get it on sale.

Cons:

Needs some firmware updates, so make sure you've got those.

Incomprehensible owner's manual; see other threads here on SB for info on how
to make sense of it. DiveNav also has a course available if needed.

Some Geos seem to consume batteries rather quickly, while others do not.

Some may incorrectly read that you're at altitude when you're not, which Oceanic
is apparently not intending to fix, as it affects bottom time calculations by
relatively little.

Cons:

Needs some firmware updates, so make sure you've got those.

Are you talking aout the Geo or Geo 2?

Haven't seen any firmware updates for my Geo 2 yet.

I have it - only have 3 dives on it so far but I love it. I can't comment on the battery or firmware issues, though I've had neither. As stated, I thought those were problems with the original Geo.

I don't recall thinking much of the manual but i did take the ediving course and found it rather helpful.

The only issue (which really doesn't even count as an issue) is that the stopwatch function doesn't seem to work as the manual states - I don't really care though - I have no plans to use it.

I'm still learning to use mine and only have 3 dives on it as well. I have also been happy with my choice despite not really knowing how to read and interpret everything yet.

Regards,
Michael

thanks for all the feedback, especially that website you linked DiveNav, great way to see all the features and how they work/display etc!
I had noticed that there were a couple of threads about the manual for oceanic computers being incomprehensible, which was a bit of a worry seeing as this will be my first dive comp. Then again with google and Scubaboard i should be able to muddle my way through any issues, generally if there is an issue you can bet someones already gone through it and hopefully found a resolution.
1 step closer to buying, thanks again

Also, if you are a videogame type of guy, keep in mind that you can virtually dive with your dive computer using our simulator.

Oops. You're right, some of this is specific to the Geo and maybe not the Geo 2 (I have some personal experience along with what I've picked up from other threads). Sorry for the miscue; I'd suggest asking about all items just to be on the safe side.
