I could go to Columbus, OH to have it serviced but that's a bit far for me- 2 1/2 hours each way. I'd much rather find a really good shop in Detroit or Ann Arbor or South Bend, Toledo, Lansing, etc. I guess going rate is about $40-$50 per stage (I have two) plus parts which might be $40-$60?? Is that ballpark? I would like to have it sealed for cold water as well- Gilboa Quarry is really close to me.

And another random question- do folks just add another G250 as an octopus?? Is that a thing? But how do you make it yellow- are there people making yellow faceplates for these? I get certified less than a month from now in Cancun- VERY excited about that!!!!!
There is no reason to put a yellow faceplate on. Unless you have one on hand, it's a waste of money. Ideally, you are the one who needs to be able to identify your octo. Because if someone comes and gives an out-of-air signal, you are the one who grabs the second stage you want to donate and hands it to them.
The protect your air supply and let someone grab for your octo is a good way to add to an already stressful situation. As well as risk getting into a situation where you also become a victim instead of a rescuer. Put a long hose on your primary and necklace the backup second.

That makes a lot of sense to me!! How long is a "long hose" for the primary?

OK Google is saying five to seven feet.

I'm having trouble keeping my grubby little hands off of this regulator.

That looks pretty darn clean, true?!!??!? And where do I get a new ring like that? I see some that don't have those godawful little tabs and that is surely my preference!!!!

I service them in the Detroit area. The Dive Shop up in Flint does great work if you prefer a traditional shop and licensed Scubapro dealer.

For something this old it doesn't matter if it's a licensed dealer or not- true?

I'm very tempted to do my best with this and then when it doesn't work- pay you to do it. :stirpot:

Some people prefer a certified tech at a licensed dealer. I can't fault them for it, they don't know me. Others just want their regs to work properly. Doesn't matter to me either way.

You are far too flippant for diving, did you think to unscrew the ring mate, like an olive jar

Are you opening those gorgeous pristine regs that don't need service with multigrips mate

You're a butcher mate with no clue, don't touch stuff have some respect and just give it up

Wouldn’t it need at least a new LP seat 🤷🏽‍♀️

multigrips mate
Yeah that’s not a good idea, a pin spanner is safer

And where do I get a new ring like that?
I’m not sure if they went NLA or not; if the G250V is still supported for parts by Scubapro them an affiliated service center can get ot for you; if not then you gotta look for the thrust washer part of the Halcyon Halo (should be the same); I think it was available on Paragon (can’t see it on website anymore but they used to offer it last year)
PN Scubapro: 11-250-105 or 11-190-117 or 11-261-117

Before you tear things apart here is the service:

Search and understand cracking effort adjustment and lever height implications before you try and tune it yourself; also you should do that on a 1st stage that you know the IP of and matches the operating range (ideally serviced
Some “theory”

How to measure cracking effort in a homebrew way:
