So if they were not on a DSD, how does their existence at 18m beneath the surface get explained? Just curious as I am sure others are as well and it seems like you might "be in the know".
They were certified divers, so there wouldn't be any reason for them not to be at 18m.

Good enough. There was nothing that said either way (certified divers or DSD) so I accept your knowledge over my lack of knowledge. Thanks for the info.

They weren't on a DSD, but they were on their honeymoon.

We've had very little info on the accident itself, really been discussing the possibilities of DSDs in the tropics; in fact, I guess our main source of info has been the one personal post linked to above on Finsonline.com about "A Japanese man got bent and died at the scene while we were at Crystal Bay on Friday 19th Sept 2008."

But there are several active threads on this forum about recent diver deaths in Bali and I wonder if perhaps you could be talking about the other one: http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/ac...52-accident-bali-sunday-5th-october-08-a.html "The Taiwanese couple, Mong Bo Xue and Hao Ling Xia, took a diving trip with Mardiana." At least we have one published news story for that one.

Or http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/accidents-incidents/250034-scuba-death-bali.html "A Czech diver died in North Bali yesterday" or Aug 26.

Most of us have never been to Bali. If you have first hand info about either or both of the two accidents, as well as what diving is like over there, it would be helpful to post what you can on each thread...?

I was initially confused between this thread and http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/ac...ew-caledonia-during-discovery-scuba-dive.html "Pacific Magazine: Japan Tourist Dies In New Caledonia Diving Accident" But that's not even close to Bali.

It's springtime there, right? Lots of deaths; wonder how many recent ones we don't know about...?

The Bali DM did not mention that it was a DSD - I just assumed that fact from earlier posts. Also he specifically said the accident happened last month at Crystal Bay - which is at Nusa Penida & that the guy was Japanese - which matches up with this post.

The dive site was a bit of a circus when we visited. The main attraction are the mola mola - comming up from the deep. Lots of SCUBA divers were trying to view the mola mola - had to swim down a long ridge with some current, the dipped down. Divers hover @ 18-30 meters waiting for mola mola to appear from the deep blue below. Our DM's left us waiting alone while he dove down to 41 meters searching for Mola Mola. It was all a bit chaotic.

Or Scuba Death Bali "A Czech diver died in North Bali yesterday" or Aug 26.
My DM friend also mentioned this death and I posted his account which reconfirms the old posts & sheds a little more light.

I know the name of the dive operator, but don't want to disclose it at the moment for a number of reasons. However, if anyone is contemplating diving in Bali, just e-mail me with the name of the company you are considering diving with and I will give you the nod, or simply advise you to use another operator. My advice will be based not only on whether there's been a fatality or serious accident, but also based on my and my friends' experience of that particular company.

I appreciate your feelings, and it's okay if you don't want to give more info - but we do not work that way here. OK?

We'll just have to gather our info otherwise. But thanks.

There is not enough clear information about this accident for me to start naming names, so I will not do that. For your information, I am busy trying to get a clearer picture of the circumstances through credible sources, unlike the 'information' that is floating around. Take, for example, the fact that there's been so much talk about this being a DSD, and now someone is saying they were qualified divers. We need more info from the authorities and that is what I am attempting to get. I am most certainly not naming names and ruining a company's reputation based on speculation about what happened. OK?

Yes, it does all seem a bit confusing.

The death of the Czech diver, who it seems did three solo single-tank 60m+ dives in one day (trying to break his depth record), is an accident that speaks for itself.

The certified divers I mentioned were the Japanese couple, one of whom (for an unknown reason) bolted to the surface.

I had already heard about both these accidents, but until I read this thread hadn't heard about the the Taiwanese couple and have no information to add I'm afraid.
