@cetacean make a lot of good points so I won't repeat them. It really depends on the length of your stay, is it just a diving holiday or are you combining trekking, temple visits, and other topside activities as well. Your experience level is also a consideration, as some sites, especially in the south, are more appropriate for experienced divers due to water temperature and currents. If your stay is a week or less, stay in Sanur/Denpasar area and do day boat trips to Padang Bai and/or Nusa Lembongan/Penida. Again, expect temps of 22-26°, and moderate to strong currents, at many of these sites. You can also do a day trip to Tulamben for the Liberty Wreck (usually no current and a very easy beginner's dive. The only downside it's a least a 2 hour drive each way to get there and back. If you have a week to ten days, I'd recommend staying in Amed or Tulamben. Amed especially is good as there are many easy dive sites and lots of fish, turtles, and corals. There is also lots of restos, spas, and often cultural happenings in town; where's Tulemben is much more a diving town, without much else to do.Would appreciat
